I noticed the other thread was closed with no actual reason put and I saw 950 posts so I assumed it was due to being close to 1000. (That and Jagr isn't signed as far as I can tell still)
Anyways since it's been noted now by various sources that 4 KHL teams, NYR and Montreal are in the mix I don't see why a thread can't exist for this. That having been said I know the last thread not only went off topic but had people bickering over various things myself inclusive. Let's just try to keep it as on-topic and as clean as possible for the mods.
Anyways Cheers! Jagr to Montreal is an e5
As per Eklund:
"I am hearing the team is "further along and much more serious with each passing day" about convincing Jagr to come and play in Montreal. One source said "They are preparing for a full court press, and Pleks has been a part of it. Meanwhile, the Habs are more likely to sign Markov than Wisniewski...and to me that is the wrong decision on quite a few fronts."
Just a friendly reminder

That being said, I doubt he comes back. It's really started to look like he's just using us as leverage for more money.
People shouldn't bring their hopes up. He's likely using the Habs as a bargaining chip. If not then he's not a superstar anymore and isn't worth the press being written for him.

Haha yeah right. Signing elite defensemen is always a bad idea. Wiz also has an injury history, before anyone brings that up...
Jagr still showed the world he still had some left in the reserves, I honestly dont think he would think about taking on Montreal or New York (Manhattan) if he thought otherwise.
He was a tourney all-star and was dominant in some games, including the hattrick game against the USA.

Eklund should understand that having people as sources doesn't mean he has the ressources to properly understand a move.
Wiz is good, but he's not Markov good. Ek should look at Philly's record vs Montreal when Markov is in the lineup... or actually, I think he would rather wish we didn't sign Markov.
People shouldn't bring their hopes up. He's likely using the Habs as a bargaining chip.
Yes Mommy.
Cam'on. Not everybody needs to do like you do, y'know. I'm a true pragmatist. There's an opportunity, I wait/seek for it. If it doesn't happen move on to the next one. Not everybody is emotionally fragile to the point of seeing every possible signing as just another player wanting to use the Habs as a bargaining chip.
Actually, think about it a bit will'ya. How do you think Plex would react if "Jagr is likely using the Habs as a bargaining chip." You don't do that to your friend's team.

Doesn't mean he can't be useful.

That I'll agree with entirely.
But don't worry, Ek is only scared that his Flyers will have to deal with both Markov and Subban from now on.

No reason we can't sign Markov AND Wisniewski if we don't blow too much money on Jagr.
The Wiz is obviously younger than both Markov and Jagr, and we should consider locking him up for many years.

If the Habs hire him it would mean that Gauthier has absolutly no plan at all and he's just buying time.
You can't be so rigid that you won't consider any opportunity because it wasn't part of the original plan. Jagr at a fair price is very tempting. With Jagr and Patches we'd have nice size on both of our top-2 lines. He presents a pretty good alternative to a line 2/3 swingman (Cole/Laich etc...). More of a high risk big reward type of decision but one that is worth considering.
If I signed Jagr I would also search the bargain basement for a vetern player a notch below (Larose, Higgins, Resoner, etc...). Just in case. A little insulation.

Then what do we do next year when Price AND Subban need to be resigned to contracts that will eat up almost 10 million in cap space?
that is a flat out awsome top 9
and Jarg and AK can just be alternated if Jarg doesnt work out
so true IMO Jagr is an inexpensive cost efficient way to boost the top 6. If it's an epic fail, its one year, and we have backup waiting in the wings
IMO Jagr makes us that much more dynamic, and better

2.75 Price
875 K Subban
3,833 Spacek
1.5 Moen
and find a home if Gomez doesnt work out this year... 7.35 mill..
There's plenty of ways to fix the cap... also, Price will be around 4-6 million....
Subban may still be waiting for a long term contract that so many assume he's getting.
Dont forget they BOTH have to earn it. Price is closer to it... But Subban IMO isn't going from 875 K - 5million + ...
He's awesome, but I dont believe it goes that far... Unless we win a cup, or both guys are trophy winners (one could only hope)

and more depth as well, lets face it injuries happen and this just gives us more options
for one year like you said the risk/reward is totally worth it.

I agree, Jagr seems to have some chemistry with Pleks, plus he adds size to the top 6, along with Pacioretty and Kostitsyn (If we keep him)
However the only thing preventing us from having an awesome Top 9 is Scott Gomez, unfortunately. It's too bad really, he just seems to be on the decline, and he might of peeked early in his career in New Jersey.
