Kovalchuk & Heatley

Any movement on the twins front? Atlanta has to be getting just a little bit nervous.

DW is negotiating with Heatley right now, once he is signed they will move on to Kovalchuk.

The latest news is that the Thrashers have made their offer to Heatley and are awaiting a response from his people.

How much are these guys going to cost? Heatley should be able to get himself a nice deal, but Kovalchuk will be tough to sign. Even leaving the Nash deal out of the equation, Ilya could very well have commanded anywhere between 4 to 5.5 million. Now what?

Both of them could ask 7 million, especially Kovalchuk. Just look at his 2003-2004 stats.

If I were Waddell and I have to sign both these kids I'd have a huge headache. For sure they will both want 6-6.5 million. IMO, they should pick one of the two and trade the other to Florida for Bowmeester, Horton, Weiss, etc...

Both @ 6 million for 5 years would make sense to me.Both should earn equal pay.In reality, there's not one better than the other.

Well then something has to give, because if not these 2 will never play together again.
Don't they have approximately 22 players already under contract? With 4 undisclosed contracts set at around 20 mill? Not sure how accurate TSN's economics are but thats what is stated.

Yes, but looking at TSN and Atlanta's current position, they could give both Heatley and Kovalchuk for $6 mil and sign a backup goalie, and still be below the cap, unless there are some serious back-loaded contracts on Atlanta's roster.

Someone said that Heatly and Kovalchuk are equal talent. I probably agree, but Ilya played almost a season without Heatly and look what he did, how many games has Heatly played in with Kovalchuk not in the lineup next do him?

If Pasi retired, could there be a possible trade coming with a team like Buffalo who have 3 decent young goalies?

If I were Waddell and I had to trade one, I'd trade him out of the SE --- don't want either coming back to finish off my team eight times a year.

Maybe Waddell could ask another GM to offer sheet one and take 4 1st rounders?

Who wants to lose 4 1st rounders even for Kovalchuk? It's no first round pick until 2010, it can seriously hurt your team, especially now that depth is priceless...

I know the solution, trade one of them to MTL!
