Don't post here often at all but stalk every once in awhile.

I'm going to give this a shot...

Let Ville walk. I think Versteeg was acquired for that reason.

QO nodl and Powe.

Try to do anything with Carcillo. I don't necessarily dislike him just no room for him on our roster.

Sign Tomas Vokoun. I wouldn't mind a 4 year deal. The first two years he is the bona-fid #1 the flyers desperately need. Playing 60-65 games a year. The third year of the deal if BOB improves the way he should then he makes a push to get more games. Maybe something like 45 for Vokoun and 37 BOB(just an estimate). Then the fourth year let BOB take over the #1 spot. Vokoun's contract could be something like this... year1-6.0mil, year2-4.5mil, year3-3mil, year4-2mil

I actually dont like the idea of trading Carter.. Keep the core of this team together as long as possible

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Daniel Briere ($6.500m) / Kris Versteeg ($3.083m)
James Van Riemsdyk ($1.654m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jeff Carter ($5.272m)
Andreas Nodl ($0.715m) / Mike Richards ($5.750m) / Eric Wellwood ($0.580m)
Darroll Powe ($0.797m) / Blair Betts ($0.700m) / Jody Shelley ($1.100m)

DEFENSEMEN
Matt Carle ($3.437m) / Chris Pronger ($4.921m)
Braydon Coburn ($3.200m) / Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m)
Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m) / Oskars Bartulis ($0.600m)
Erik Gustafsson ($0.900m)

GOALTENDERS
Sergei Bobrovsky ($1.750m) / Tomas Vokoun ($3.875m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $63,500,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,119,988; BONUSES: $1,700,000
CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $380,012

If a forward gets hurt we could always send Gust down and bring a forward up. I don't know if Matt Read makes the team out of camp but if he does you can take wellwood out and insert Read there. We would have about 60k left if thats the case.

And if we trade someone i believe its going to be Carle.. to free some cap space up and sign a cheaper #5 defenseman. Somewhere along the lines of 2 or 2.5 million a year. I also have no idea who that dman could be haha.

Oh and shelley could be waived at camp and replaced with Sestito- Just saw Meltzer mention that and agree it probably will be considered.

I also think nodl will have a 20 goal season next year for some reason haha..

I know some of you will pick this apart but this is just what i think would be a pretty decent team going into next season.

For a 21-man roster, it cuts pretty close to the cap, but other that that, very nice.

Thanks, cutting it that close is why i think they will trade Carle at the draft for something. probably a 2nd or maybe if homer can work some magic a late first? just wishful thinking. I see people saying Jan Hedja signing with us if we trade Carle, but i think he could get 2.8 to 3 mill on the open market, and if he gets that much it wouldn't make much sense to trade Carle to sign him to a deal like that.(strictly speaking money-wise)

Trades:
Carle to Toronto for a Lupul, and the best pick we can get for it.
Carter to Ottawa for Anderson, Jared Cowan, and the best picks we can get
Carcillo to LA for a 4th and 7th round pick

Signings:
Powe at 850000
Nodl at 1 mil
Gagne for 2.5 or less only
If not Gags the Cole for 2.5 or less
resign Odonnel 800,000

Lines

JvR-Giroux-Versteeg
Gagne/Cole-Richards-Lupul
Hartnell-Briere-Read/Nodl
Powe-Betts-Holmstrom

Pronger-Meszaros
Coburn-Timmonen
O'donnel-Gustafsson/Marshall
Bart

Anderson
Bobrovsky

Cap hit= 59,979,761

Although the line up doesnt look as pretty i think it is built for the playoffs. and please dont flame me for trading Carter and Carle, i actually like both of them.

Homer i believe said that he will be making QO to nodl and powe so their salaries probably won't be that high

I don't mean to sound rude or anything but there is no way i would want lupul and Anderson on this team. Lupul the last few years has had injury problems and hasnt played over 30 games in a year for 3 years running now. Cole and Gagne will almost likely get over 3 million on the open market, maybe Gagne would come back for cheap but is that what we really need?

Now i am also someone who doesn't want to trade Carter. But if we did trade him i wouldn't want the deal to bring us back Anderson.

The way i would go in solving our problems for a goalie is
1) Sign Vokoun or..
2) Sign Bryz(at a manageable contract... which probably won't happen) or..
3) Trade Carter to the Kings in a deal involving Quick(highly unlikely especially with the Kings need to sign their big name dman, taking on a 5.272 a year will put them in a crunch with the cap. Also trading away a cheap, great goaltender wouldn't be helping the team out much) or.. the last option...
4) Trading for nabokov

So do I. I'd love to get Brooks Laich at 2.4M a year. Who wouldn't? How likely realistic is that? There's not a snow balls chance in hell that Laich signs for 2.4M a year.

Those trade proposals are absolutely brutal. And your not getting Cole for 2.5 or less.

Agreed. I'd go so far as to say he won't get signed for under $3.5M, maybe even $4M on the open market. Someone's going to overpay for a consistent 20-goal scorer that's also probably one of the best defensive forwards in the league.

It only happens if he takes a great home team discount for DC. He's a good player, and a great personality. He calls into the DC radio shows regularly, and is generally well-liked here. I'd love to have him in Philly, but the salary cap exists.

I don't see him taking a discount. I'd love to have him in Philly also, but I don't see how.

here's what id like to see:

waive Shelley (1.1)
trade Versteeg for a bag of pucks (3.083333)
let Carle walk (3.4375)
let Boosh walk (0.925)
Boynton walks (0.500)

sign UFA goalie like: Vokoun or Bryz or Leclaire or Hedberg

sign UFA forward like: Bergenheim, Jokinen, Tanguay, Laich, Miettinen, Cole, Ponikarovsky, Gagne, Sturm, Frolov, Fleischmann, Moreau, Fedotenko, Torres, Dupuis

sign UFA defender like: Ian White, Wisniewski, Hannan, Montador, Babchuk, Woywitka

He had sports hernia and adds grit to hgis game and can help Richards in a shut down role.

Nice argument there.

Carle's not a UFA or RFA. Leclaire and Hedberg are no better than Boosh. Pretty much every forward you listed (other than maybe Sturm, Moreau, Gagne, Fedotenko, Torres (who is a psycho) and Dupuis) is going to get at least $3 million. Wisniewski will get at least $4.5 million, if not more, while White and Hannan probably won't be in our price range either. Montador and Woywitka are both probably as good as O'Donnell. Only one I'd really want is Babchuk.

Honestly, we need Versteeg more than Leino.

I hate admitting it, because I didn't want him in the first place, but Leino is a major "soft" player on the team. He can take a beating and maintain possession of the puck better than maybe anyone on the team, BUT, he will not dish out anything to the opposition. One of the bigger reasons we were destroyed by Boston was the lack of physical play. We cannot compete with the biggest teams anymore - we just can't (especially if Shelley can't play, too). Versteeg helps us in that department, and I also think Carcillo does.

Leino is an amazing talent, and I want to keep him, but since Steeg is already our property and we don't NEED Leino's offensive talent, I'd take Steeg over Leino.

Also Versteeg can at least be on the PK and didn't play as well as he could have by having a double hernia. Not easy to play with that.

Jokinen would never stay at 2M. He will EASILY be 3M. He just had a 65 pt season (81 games) and a 52 pt season (70 games) in the past 2 seasons. He's earned a bigger paycheck than Leino.

Also, we have Wellwood waiting to come up and play. He's played 3 games this season and never looked out of place when with Richards. He had a dead cheap contract and I think he can definitely be something pretty good for us.

Also, Asham over Powe... I don't think so. Asham might have a bit better hands, but Powe has more speed, can still hit as much and is a great PKer.

then tweak it mofo!
Do you like the lineup besides what you stated?

Larose would replace Powe on the PK.

We don't need to roll with 9 top 6 players, but we do need players with jump, grit and get things done. I chose Hejda over Ericsson because not only can he use his size better than Ericsson, he's a bit more experienced (not playoffs sadly), can put up about as many points as Ericsson and the big thing is, for almost as many games as each other, Hejda has 26 less turnovers, which means he's less of a liability. Pretty much bury Shelley, Walker, and Leighton in the minors. I have Sestito in there because I think he might be better in every aspect over Shelley and would cost a ton less. Also, Holmstrom is a faceoff and pest/grinder kind of guy, and I think he will our replacement for Betts, when Betts is done here that is.

Looking at it, the Flyers centers should be Richards, Carter and Giroux. Briere, Versteeg, Hartnell, JVR, Nodl and then possibly Read or Wellwood round out the top 9. Maybe even a UFA. 4th line last year really wasn't that bad, Betts obviously had face-off troubles because of his hand injury but I think that'll change. Maybe get Aaron Asham back.

Defense should probably revolve around giving Andrej Meszaros #1 minutes. Prongs, Timonen and Coburn can play #2 to #4 minutes and two cheap defensemen round out the defense. Perhaps a really solid stay at home guy (Hejda!) and then move a youngster into the line-up (Gus, Syvret, Bartulis). Matt Carle seems like a really likely candidate to be moved, sadly. Maybe it'll be Coburn instead though, who knows.

If Homer doesn't solve the Goaltending problem by signing/trading for a solid netminder I will not cheer for this team. Even Nabokov I would be happy with and that says a lot to how I feel about the situation. I love Bob and think he will be great once he is given time to adapt to the North American game, schedule and language and works out the kinks in his game (commiting to butterfly waaaay to early). Give Bob 25 or 30 games, while giving the other goalie 50+. Maybe set it up like Luongo and Schneider this year. Speaking of Schneider, I think I might even be happy if they decide to go with a youthful duo (Bob + Schneids or Bob + Bernier?) and split the games 35-45 or 30-50 or even 40-40.

Trades
(1) Jeff Carter for Jakub Voracek + 8th overall (probably aiming too high here, so the 8th overall can be lowered to a 2nd or a solid prospect)
(2) Matt Carle for picks/prospects

UFA
Simon Gagne for $3M for 3-4 seasons
Tomas Vokoun for $4M for 2-3 seasons
Let Ville Leino walk

Call-ups
Erik Gustafsson
Eric Wellwood

That team would be sick, the only thing I would worry about is lack of size up the middle, which is why I am worried about trading Carter.
