Ohhhh, yeah. I forgot about the official forum. I haven't been back since I got on here. They ran me off with a perfect mix of boring and jackassery.

Still, shutting them all down? Smooth.

I've never even posted on there. Darn. But then again, I just joined this place a few months ago. Hockeybuzz is more entertaining but this place has more real talks.

In the old days the np.com board was about 75% social and 25% hockey. But there was a community of friends who all knew each other in real life and those boards strengthend my bond to the team. It was a good place for a new fan to learn about the game. The hockey talk here is superior(except for steves thread over there) but the sense of community here isn't nearly as strong. I thinkthe nhl is making a big mistake

is it just the end of the NHL run boards or are they also preventing boards on team sites all together? In other words, Are the teams free to create their own boards again?

I thought of signing up several times throughout the years over on the other board but never did. Not sure exactly why I didn't. That said, one wonders why the NHL is doing such a thing.

And honestly, I hope that anyone who is from the other boards who is hesitant about joining HF, well, don't be!

According to Ben Wright's Twitter, the Thrashers web guy, this is the NHL boards that are shutting down. The team boards are on a "different platform" (?) and will not be affected.

there were a few teams that were allowed to keep their "old" boards when the NHL switched over to KickApps. That does seem to leave room for the teams to launch their own boards again.

sounds like the NHL decided running league wide boards was too much of a headache and is throwing it back to individual teams

I don't know, most of the folks that sit near me are on twitter to begin w/ and I rarely go to the np.com board anymore. What I will remember about it is that it was a sort of galvanizing place that many fans had to endure and fight off the Great White North takeover and usurpation of our team by the Man from R.I.M.

Not to mention the time when it was basically unmoderated so we had to deal with all of the in-house pests who merely wanted to start arguments about things... I won't name any names, but one of them called me a skateboard kid (because I was growing my hair out to donate) and still has my clapper from the 07 play offs that I lent him at the rally...
