I'm a big Bryz fan. I think he's a better goalie + he's got lulz intangibles.

Depends on what we can get each goalie for. All things equal, I'd take Bryz. But when the likely contracts each player will get is factored in, I'd take Vokoun.

Contract's aside, I'd rather have Bryzgalov. He's an incredible goalie and I think he'd be good with Bob.

With a salary cap, Vokoun is so much more attractive. Regardless, voted Bryz.

Bryzgalov is being so badly overrated. If the cap hits are the same and the length isn't outrageous, I'd take Vokoun any day.

Overrated in comparison to whom? Leighton, Boucher and Bob?

Bryzgalov is a legit number one...is he the answer and could we overshoot somewhat..possibly but beggers can't be choosers. Vokoun is intriguing but I have my concerns with him as well...including a back that has been acting up on him.

Overrated in comparison to Leighton and Boucher? No, he's clearly better than them.

He's a legit #1, but people are acting like he is going to come here and immediately take us to the cup. He's relatively young and he's going to get paid...a lot. We don't have cap space or the need to use tons of money.

What worries me is his playoff performances, especially recently:
2010 - 3.44 GAA, .906 SV%
2011 - 4.36 GAA, .879SV%

And thats with a defensive based team.

Phx got swept. They were far from a good defensive team.

If we acquire him I see it as a Luongo type acquisition (thought the Flyers should have gone after him when he was on the block but considered too pricey as well).....he has the potential to bring you a cup. It's too early to write him off based on two playoff performances. A change of scenery might do him well also. I think there is just way more upside than downside but yeah to fit him in have to lose a considerable roster player and I do believe it's Carter. However, Carter is a trump card that can allow for other assets to come in if Holmgren is smart (cough cough)

Anyway..there are no guarantees he'll get us a cup anytime soon and especially since we'll have a couple of bigger holes to fill with Pronger and Timonen. In Pronger's case it looks like he'll be a part time player from here on in due to his back and in Timonen's case he's a short-timer. However, you'll have a decent amount of time to try and do so b/c of his age and the fact he is a number one that can play 50-60 games and carry the team for longer stretches than anything we've had in net in a long while. He also would be good in making the situational save the fuels the transition offense that Lavy wants...

If all things are equal, I would take Bryz and run. Problem is, Bryz is going to be given a long contract worth a lot of money. That's why I voted for Vokoun. He's still a great #1, he's going to get a shorter contract (which means Bob can develop and then take over), and he'll get less money.

I'll be happy with either one, but if Homer doesn't sign one of them or Roloson, my head will probably explode from rage.

2012 isn't much better.

RFA's

UFA's

Basically you have RFA's like Price (who'll resign), Rask (who'll resign), Pavelec (who'll likely resign), and then Schneider and Lindback who will probably be on the market.

UFA's feature Pekka Rinne (who'll probably resign), and then people like a retiring Brodeur, a fresh out of Europe Huet, Niitty, and Scott Clemmensen.

I voted Bryzgalov, but only because I had to pick one. Vokoun can be the man, and in his interviews he seems level and like a good team mate. In an interview a few years ago I remember him saying that Anderson didn't deserve to sit so he could get his game back together because he had played so well...and that was in the middle of the season. Team player there.

Vokoun makes more sense, but Bryz is the better goalie.

If we are going to win RIGHT NOW, then I want Bryz in between the pipes.

I disagree. What has Bryz done to prove he's a better goalie than Vokoun? I know stats don't mean everything, but Vokoun's are consistent and fantastic.

I'd prefer Vokoun because I assume he will cost less and be willing to take a shorter contract. I want a shorter contract because I'd like Bob to be our number one sometime in the future, which would obviously be less likely with a not too, old very good goalie on our team. That doesn't make the most sense though, considering Bryzgalov has proven himself while Bob despite having a good rookie season has not yet.

Vokoun has been one of my favourite goalies for quite some time now. I think he's actually better than Bryzgalov and he'll likely be cheaper as well.

All things being equal I'd rather have Bryzgalov. But I think Vokoun would probably be a more cap friendly. My prediction is that the difference in contracts will be a lot bigger than the difference in the quality of goal tending they provide, which if I'm correct I would rather have Vokoun.
