And yes I know it's for economic reasons, but that doesn't mean I like it. It only serves to make the US playing squad worse as a unit.
There is more to it then what you post though. Look at this weekend...how many teams are available, with Euro qualifiers and a lot of non-euro leagues still going. Mexico played a weakened Ecuador squad and New Zealand....then you have to remember its harder for NA teams to schedule friendlies due to the travel...and its not like the US was gonna go somewhere 3 days out of the GC.

I know, there's not a lot to choose from. Personally I would have tried to schedule Serbia, Australia (even though we played them not long ago), or South Korea. Of course I would also have USSF taking in a lot less money as a result. But what's done is done now. I just hope to see more choices for friendly opponents that are at our competition level until we get closer to the World Cup.

65k tickets and getting shellacked > 12-15k tickets and a game with no real merit. New Zealand's a waste of time to play.

I don't really see the Gold Cup as a major priority, and I don't think the players all see it as that either. Sure, if they win, great. I think some of the fringe invitees are happy to give it a go, but I'm not sure some of the veterans care all that much with their seasons either done in Europe (and in the case of some needing to stay healthy for a new contract/move) or missing some MLS for it.

As a fan, I like seeing the top talent here. I like seeing us play the Brazils, the Argentinas, the Spains. Sure, we're going to get beat, but I get to see the best players and how we stack up. I rather not see us play a competitive, but ultimately meaningless game against Serbia.

I know it wasn't the "A" team but I grew tired of the excuses from Darke and Harkes about the game. Yeah, its not a shame to lose against Spain, but it really wasn't competitive until the final 20-30 minutes when Spain just didn't care anymore.

And I know he is really popular, but I'm kind of sick of Darke in general, I mean yesterday he didn't even know Mark Hughes resigned from Fulham. Darke-Harkes is not a good combo, maybe I'm sick of Darke because he is involved in 99% of the games on ESPN. I was always a big fan of Robbie Mustoe and they seem to have relegated him to Press Pass

Anyway, the #1 team I cheer for, Croatia, showed some character and fought back to beat Georgia, but thats the problem, we were trailing Georgia who had one shot on goal and scored. The team hasn't done well since Euro 2008, the players seem to comfortable with Bilic. Instead of intense training it seemed like trips to the Croatian islands was on the itinerary before the match

I know, that's my point! They were a team willing to travel.

but..they had just played in South Korea..from Tokyo to LA is an 11 hour flight right there, and US was playing the 4th, I doubt any team would want to schedule such arrangements...unless you're speaking of the fact that Serbia as a whole is willing to travel as in the fact that they went all the way to SK...but yet again , who knows? Maybe they had already scheduled that match, and you also have to count the other federation accepting, maybe they preferred a match with the Koreans.

Yes, that's what I mean, maybe they would have taken a match with the US instead. It's certainly plausible, but who knows. I think at this point USSF is more interested in selling tickets than anything else, so they probably never even considered offering a match to a team like that.

Marvin Martin with a good senior debut for France, with two goals and an assist (from a corner) after coming on as substitute.

He seems to score in bunches, and finishing in both goals was very convincing.

He played 15 minutes!
When he came in, the score was 1-1.
He scored a beauty, 2-1.
He assists on a great corner, 3-1.
He scores on a one on one with the keeper, 4-1.

15 minutes, that's all he had to show Blanc that he is becoming our best midfielder. Well, I'm sure the point is taken now.

And green was the away kit of that squad no? Hence the 1972-2012 in the collar of the shirt

Martin was beast! Made me think about Zidane's first game for France.

I liked Gameiro as well, nice goal when the team was playing awful.

Green was the away kit of every West German team.

The shirt design, not the colour green, is paying tribute to the 1972 team.

I'm pretty sure I read on Bild that it was toward the kit at the 1972 Euros and the green away shirt. I guess it's honouring both the design and the colour.

Starting to realize just how important Antti Niemi and Jussi Jääskeläinen were for this team.
