2011 Mod Mock Draft

So as in past years, the mods are doing a mock draft. It is still ongoing right now, but here's who this providence and I ended up with at #10 for our amazing club:

Ryan Strome, C Niagara IceDogs

Let the savaging begin in 3,2,1...

If we get this luck to get him at 10 it would be so awesome!!
Joel Armia for Winnipeg? I thought they needed centers..

Ya, I think Winnipeg would probably be the floor for Strome. And when all is said and done, I can't see Columbus passing on him either. If they trade the selection which has been a popular talker, he'd probably go to that unnamed team anyway.

We can only hope I guess. It was a Thrasher mod who made the selection so he's got a fairly good feel for what the franchise needs. So who knows.

Ryan Murphy is also around in this scenario. That's another talent that I'd love to have in this organization.

Maybe Winnipeg wants a new Finnish Flash?

No one's seeing that, which is too bad given it might be the best thing I've ever done on this board.

Oh well. Still stand by the "best thing I've ever done on this board" statement.

ATL really needs a RW scorer, theyre pretty thin there, but i dont see them going Armia, a few posters over there really like the guy, but i dont see him cracking the top 12 imo.

so is it safe to assume the Wild will be looking at best forward available?

i would think all things being equal they'd pick the forward. But that depends on whether or not they trade Burns and what they trade him for.

If a defenseman were to be there with some offensive upside and flair like Murphy, I think he'd be considered and would perhaps be the pick given what is available.

But yes, ideally I think they'd like to come away with the best offensive prospect available. I think they'll consider moving back as they don't have a second round pick this season, but I don't think they'd be willing to slide back all that far (4-6 picks would alright).

The mods draft is indicative that this draft has the potential to go all over the place. It seems as draft day draws near, consensus has flown out the window.

I really hope we trade down to get a top 2 rounder and get a player like Puempel, Armia or Scheifele mid/late in 1. I think is possible if all top forwards are gone and something like last year happens again (no one picking defenseman early).

Figured I'd update the draft to where it is now:

1 Oilers - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
2 Avalanche - Adam Larsson
3 Panthers - Jonathan Huberdeau
4 Devils - Gabriel Landeskog
5 Islanders - Sean Couturier
6 Senators - Mika Zibanejad
7 Thrashers - Joel Armia
8 Blue Jackets - Dougie Hamilton
9 Bruins - Nathan Beaulieu
10 Wild - Ryan Strome
11 Avalanche - Ryan Murphy
12 Hurricanes - Duncan Siemens
13 Flames - Sven Bärtschi
14 Stars - Mark McNeill
15 Rangers - Mark Scheifele
16 Sabres - Vladislav Namestnikov
17 Canadiens - Nicklas Jensen
18 Blackhawks - Tomas Jurco
19 Oilers - Oscar Klefbom
20 Coyote - Matt Puempel
21 Senators - Jamie Oleksiak
22 Ducks - Brandon Saad
23 Penguins - Scott Mayfield
24 Red Wings - Connor Murphy
25 Maple Leafs - Jonas Brodin
26 Capitals - Zach Phillips

As you can see, there's definitely a risk of moving back too far. Most all forward prospects start flying off the board. Drop past 15 and you're in trouble IMO.

Agreed. Since this draft is considered pretty balanced through the first 3 rounds do you think Fletcher stands pat with our 3rd, 4th, etc. round picks? Or would he trade up with a 3rd and 4th to get into the 2nd? Maybe he has an honest interest in Granlund's brother and doesn't think he'll be there in the 3rd? Anyways- Summer ramblings. Hot and bored.

Not sure if Fletcher does but that's something I'm very interested in seeing.
