Although the line up doesnt look as pretty i think it is built for the playoffs. and please dont flame me for trading Carter and Carle, i actually like both of them.
As great as Jeff Carter is, Ottawa would have to say no.

Without Craig Anderson, the Sens starter would be Curtis McElhenny (or McEltanky as we call him), and even though we have an abundance of defensive prospects, most of them aren't like Jared Cowen. I'm not saying the value isn't there, it's more to do with killing our development.

Leino refused a 2.8M contract and Phoenix wouldn't spend the money for 6.25M/year for Bryz, so he would get more than 5.6. I'd ideally say 5.75 or 6 for Bryz though.

Also, considering how Langs pretty much crapped all over the Stars (played poorly if you ask me), I don't want him here AT ALL. Also, Babchuk, with the season he had, he'd probably get at least 3M.

It's a 21-man roster at a $63 mil cap total:

Oskars Bartulis ($0.600m) / Sean O'Donnell ($1.000m)

Please rest assured my keyboard is bile-spotted for actually putting Leighton in the starting line-up. However, he saves about $200,000 and Bob can start in the AHL. I'm actually expecting to start the season without Pronger, so any LTIR amount could pay for Bob to be on the big club with, maybe Gustaffson. There's no risk in sending Leighton down; I really doubt anyone would pick him up at 100% salary.

EDIT: Shuffled the Dmen

I didn't know Leino rejected a contract offer from the Flyers. I know Holmgren said there was 2 offers on the table for him earlier in the year. I only saw a few games of Langenbrunner in Dallas but from the games I saw when he was in NJ he played well. You're probably right about Babchuk. I was reaching a bit with that one.

trade Versteeg for a bag of pucks (3.083333)
let Carle walk (3.4375)
let Boosh walk (0.925)
Boynton walks (0.500)

sign UFA goalie like: Vokoun or Bryz or Leclaire or Hedberg

sign UFA forward like: Bergenheim, Jokinen, Tanguay, Laich, Miettinen, Cole, Ponikarovsky, Gagne, Sturm, Frolov, Fleischmann, Moreau, Fedotenko, Torres, Dupuis

sign UFA defender like: Ian White, Wisniewski, Hannan, Montador, Babchuk, Woywitka

Pretty much every forward you listed (other than maybe Sturm, Moreau, Gagne, Fedotenko, Torres (who is a psycho) and Dupuis) is going to get at least $3 million. Wisniewski will get at least $4.5 million, if not more, while White and Hannan probably won't be in our price range either. Montador and Woywitka are both probably as good as O'Donnell. Only one I'd really want is Babchuk.
Here's my reply to your comments about my proposal:

Carle ufa or not.. dont care.. I dont like him. Seems like everytime a big goal is scored against us, its a Carle blunder. Can we get Steve Downie back?!? gave up on that kid waaay too soon

As for Leclaire .. a 1st round pick. Put up insane numbers before his injury. Another DiPietrio? Maybe... but split the games between Bob and Pascal and you're doing pretty good! It will be nice to see Flyers actually get a SHO or two every once in a while.

So in my post I cleared around 9mill off the roster. Plus however much the cap goes up, another 3mill or something. Gives us some spending money in the UFA market.
Regarding the forwards. Yeah, I'm OK with spending over 3mill on a quality player who works hard and can score like Frolov or Sturm for ex. also, Someone said bring in Zenon Konopka. I totally agree, git er dun! Love that kid!
As for defenders, again I'm cool with spending 3mill on someone descent.

If we sign Bryz, then also sign boosh to a 1 year deal as backup for $900,000? Let Bob be the starter for the Phantoms so he can get playing time?

Everyone seems to think Konopka is young. He's not a "kid." He's 30 years old, couldn't crack an NHL roster for more than 7 games until he was 28, and has only played for sub-par teams (Columbus, Tampa last year, and the Isles). He's not some cheap, young prospect.

Some more messing around. Here's what I ended up doing:

Obviously the big thing is signing Bryzgalov to a contract like $5,400,000 per year for 5 years. May be a bit below what he was asking for from Phoenix in terms of cap hit, but it's $2 million more in terms of total money.

Waive Shelley and Leighton, LTIR Lappy, and let go Leino and Zherdev.

Trade Carle for a 1st (someone like Carolina).

Resign O'Donnell for one year at $1,000,000. I've seen Ericsson put in here for a contract like this, but I'm not sure what kind of contract he's looking for. Also resign Nodl for $800,000. It looks like a pay cut, but it's actually a $150,000 raise in guaranteed money. Resign Darroll Powe for $775,000 as well, as that's a bit above his qualifying offer.

Sign Adam Hall for $650,000. It's only a $50,000 raise for him so I'm not sure if he takes it. If not, sign Sestito for around the same.

Bring up Gustafsson and Wellwood, plug them into the lineup, and there's your 22-man roster.

I'd love this if it's possible. Likely isn't.

Agreed. If most of us are questionable on Carle's defense, can't wait to see how people react when they watch MAB try to play defense. Also I see Gagne going back to TB.

Leighton, Walker and Shelley to the minors. Re-sign Nodl, Powe, and Sestito. Bring up Wellwood. Let Bartulis be our #6 replacing OD. Have someone from the Phantoms be our 7th, like Marshall or Lehtivuori.
I like it but the forwards are pretty much the same as what they had past this season and the def is less physical w/o OD.

If they could replace Nodl or Powe with a guy like Winchester (may have to go to 1M) and resign OD or sign Jurcina for 1M. Joonas and Oscar go to the A until there is an injury.

Hartnell - Briere - Wellwood
JVR - Giroux - Carter
Versteeg - Richards - Winchester
Sestito - Betts - Powe/Nodl

mez - pronger
coburn - kimo
jurcina/OD - gus

Shelley will not be waived whether you want him to be or not. Way too many rosters without him on there

Last year I would've said that Gagne would never be traded if people had him missing from their rosters. Things can change. If that's what it takes to get under the cap, then that may be what happens.

Just so everyone is aware. Bobrovsky would have to clear Waivers to be sent down to the AHL.
