With Hartnell's $4.2M removed, the Flyers top six forwards are Richards, Carter, Briere, Giroux, JVR and Leino (who will be a UFA on July 1st). Their bottom six is composed of Versteeg, Betts, Nodl, Shelley, Powe and Carcillo. It is possible that the Flyers not quality Carcillo and let him depart as a UFA. Perhaps the Flyers will look to add some cheap options while also acquiring serviceable players, something along the lines of Brad Richardson and Scott Parse going to Philly for Scott Hartnell (an exchange of $4.2M for $1.8M in contracts).

The Kings could ice a lineup of:
Penner-Kopitar-Williams
Hartnell-Schenn-Brown
Smyth-Stoll-Simmonds
Clifford-Lewis-Westgarth/Holloway

The Flyers would still have some depth and be able to re-sign Leino by moving Hartnell:
Leino-Richards-Carter
van Riemsdyk-Giroux-Briere
Parse-Richardson-Versteeg
Nodl/Powe-Betts-Shelley
Yeah the Flyers will have to do something but I think they would rather just let Leino walk this summer and keep Hartnell. I'm not sure what their cap would be anyways. According to reports though Bryzgalov is asking for a ton of money so who knows if they even get him signed.

I'm all for adding Hartnell, but that guts a lot of team speed from us.

I asked Dean about Hartnell at last year's HockeyFest and he said he likes him but doesn't have the skill Dean is looking for.

If we talk to Philly, we need to focus on Jeff Carter.

I'd love to get Carter from Philly, but his contract length is ridiculous.

That's a problem for distant-future-us. Present-us is laughing as the goals pile up.

His cap hit is sensible at a little over $5.2M, but the fact that he's signed for the next 11 seasons until 2022, when he'll be 38, is just too long. It is going to be a difficult contract to unload down the road. If only his contract term was four years shorter...

I think Carter could play until he's 38. I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I'd offer Philly Simmonds, a 2nd, Stoll, Moller and Hickey for Carter and Carcillo.

Penner-Kopitar-Carter
Smyth-Schenn-Williams
Parse-Lewis-Brown
Clifford-Richardson-Carcillo
Westgarth

I would still make Richards plan A. He fills more holes for the Kings and is a PPG player in the playoffs. Carter's scoring drops in the playoffs.

The issue will be, how good will Carter be at 38? We see how a 35 year old Ryan Smyth is like. We can't forget what it was like to experience a 36 year old Jeremy Roenick. Having that cap hit when Carter reaches his mid to late 30s is going to be a hindrance, but that is not for another 10 years.

If the Kings could get eight solid years out of Carter, then it is a move worth risking. But realize that the Kings may be handcuffed from making any other significant moves if they add Carter's contract to the roster.

Wow,

I heard today that BR is looking for $7.5mper and an 8 yr deal. He is 31 He wants to be paid until he is for (may b day) and then retire. That is allot of beans for a guy who hasn't popped the 30 goal mark at his spot and is on the downside of his career.

If that's true then Sather or Burke can have him. I'd love nothing more than to see the Rangers stuck with another immovable contract.

Doesn't it seem like another Ranger deal in the making? I can't believe that he is looking for so much. The fact that he wants to be paid up to 40 seems right but the pay is so over the top that it just screams Rangers to me.

Asking for that, cause he knows someone will pay it. It's most likely his last contract. Brad is thinking He needs to be top Five paid Center. (Doesn't deserve it). But that is what I would asking for.

I remember when people kept saying Kovi was not going to get his 10/100 mill (I believe That's more than Ovi makes yearly). Guess what, someone was dumb enough to give it to him.

Brad will get what ever he wants.

And I would be shocked if He gets it From Dean Lombardi.

HNIC Radio said NYR, Tor, LA with Detroit and Washington as 2 possible dark horses.

It's June 7th. Seems a little early for the rumor mongering on salary demands.

Dean will make his move on draft day. Don't think he will do much on July 1st.

I don't know about Hartnell. He's another 20 goal, 40-50 point guy, who's not particularly skilled or fast.

Carter's skill set is a nice fit, but it's unlikely Lombardi would take on such a contract. He also has an NTC, as does Hartnell. I'd be more willing to take on Briere's contract.

Philly is praying that the NHLPA uses their 5% inflator. Has anyone heard if Fehr is a fan of the cap booster?

Carter: KNOWN CLAUSES: Full NTC (2012-13 through 2014-15); modified NTC (2015-16 through 2021-22)

Starts next off season. This is why he is part of the rumors. I just don't see Philly moving him. They have other players that can be moved to make room for Bryzgalov.

Does anybody think Richards playing in Tampa and Dallas may give the Kings an advantage? The wife and kids are used to living in "good" weather. The other teams rumored to be after him have very different climates.

Yes Carter does/will have an NTC, which would make Dean even less willing to take on his contract. Versteeg is another name that could be in play for Philly.

As for Richards, he could be starting high as a negotiations ploy. He may be willing to come down. There's no reason for him not to ask for the moon. Also, he could always be given a Hossa-like deal.

5.2M CAP Hit

Not sure if DL would do a deal like that, and the NHL would probably be reluctant to approve it, but it could work. I still wouldn't want Richards though, even with that CAP hit.

Usually if a player with a NTC is traded before it kicks in, the team he's traded to doesn't have to honor it - i.e. Visnovsky trade. Who knows what is actually written in the contract though.

Weirder things have happened, but I think the odds of Philly moving Carter are close to 0%.
