For what it's worth, amid all the Jeff Carter trade rumors, I am told PHI is not trying to move him and not planning to move him.
Never say never in this business but I suspect other bodies - Versteeg, Carle etc - will fly out the door before Carter.
Hope we are able to get something for those two... I can easily see Homer trading them for like a 5th round pick and a 34 yr old defender who is a #7 on most teams.

Whatever pundit that opined that FLA may be a good option for a Versteeg deal is probably on to something. All of this requires that an actual deal be worked out with Bryz. Not convinced that is actually possible.
Personally, I would still like to see Versteeg stick around and get a full year playing with Richards.
I would be open to something around Carter/Voracek/#8.
Here's the problem. If Leino isn't around, there's a good chance Briere has to go back to the wing. So, Carter becomes a center again. All of this without getting into the fact that Carter had a LOT to do with how effective Giroux was last year.
If teams are willing to lavish you with all sorts of tribute for Carter you can't just outright say it would be counterproductive. You have to analyze it based on what is being offered..so far indications are that we're in the driver's seat. It would be counterproductive IMO if you have blinders on and don't consider the options. People act like Carter is a superstar...he's not. He's a very good bluechip player that teams look like they are willing to possibly overpay for. Let's see...
You always listen to what other teams have to say. I seriously doubt the Flyers are looking to move Carter. If teams willing to overpay, he must be a pretty good player

You apparently talked one scout freind and you now know the inside workings of the NHL trade scene? I think if Carter was truly on the market, there would be more than 3 teams coveting him. I love these comments towards Holmgren as if he's some chump who doesn't know what he's doing. Maybe you could give him a call and give him some advice and tell him what he should be doing.

Carter's time here has come and gone and I think he can possibly return more than he is worth.
Yea, who needs a solid two way player who is one of the top goal scorers in the League. LOL
"Possibly we'd look to move the pick -- even for a player, if we could," Howson told NHL.com. "We're open for anything. I don't think it's likely we'd move up, more likely we'd either make the pick or move back or perhaps trade it for a player."
Carter for Voracek and the 8th overall is a nice starting point, but more has to be added by Columbus, especially since the trade includes the negotiating rights of Voracek. Not a player already under contract, just his negotiating rights. If the deal happened there's no guarantee that Voracek doesn't ask for a contract that is out of our price range. For me, it would take Columbus adding a few more pieces to even out the deal, whether it's extra picks or another prospect or 2.

Voracek is a RFA, not a UFA. His salary isn't determined but he absolutely would be Flyers property.
Would be awesome to have a shot at Huberdeau or Strome, though we might have to move up a spot or two
At 8th overall we'd be looking at something like...
1-4 will probably be NH, Larsson, Landeskog, and Couturier.
5-15 is probably Huberdeau, Strome, Zibanejad, Hamilton, Murphy, Armia, Bartschi, McNeill, Beaulieu, Scheifele, and Biggs or something similar.
Of course that's order I expect, but that's pretty much the area we're looking at.
Armia is tempting as hell if we get this pick, but I think it'd make sense for us to go after Hamilton if Strome and Huberdeau drop off the board before us...which they likely would be.
That said, this is all hypothetical. I still don't think Carter gets moved.

I assume you are a Leighton fan? Maybe you can send Holmgren a greeting card of yourself and ask if you can meet him in person and pat his back for a job well done last year in the offseason......

Reason: PG rating
I'm not trading Carter for a straight draft pick, even if it is a number 1. If we have to trade him (and I would still rather deal Carle, and Hartnell/Versteeg if necessary), I'd want something like the 8th and Voracek from Columbus.

It was a joke... perhaps this would have helped.... --->
Carter I don't think is going anywhere. Carle likely - Steeger perhaps.
