That's what the Rangers would be giving for Spezza, not Patrick freaking Sharp, who, might I add, is unbelievably overrated..
The same Patrick Sharp who scored 35 goals this season? Look, goal scoring is a necessity and if the Rangers strike out on free agency what are we left with? This team is going no where in it's present state. Sharp can play center or left wing and I think a line of Sharp-Stepan-Gaborik would do some serious damage.

Yes, the same Patrick Sharp that scored 35 goals lasts season...playing with Toews and Kane. You don't give up a package like that for a complimentary 1st liner. One that is a UFA at the end of 11-12.

Maybe but we also need 1st line players and giving up that much for him isnt worth it. If it was for Stasny or Spezza then fine

Sharp played with Kopecky most of the season. Kane-Toews-Hossa was usually Line 1 and Kopecky-Frolik-Sharp was the second line.
I watch a lot of Blackhawks hockey. They are my 2nd favorite team.

Sharp can play center as well and if not, Stepan or Dubinsky can fill that role. Stepan will most likely reach that level in the next couple years anyway. If the Rangers strike out on Richards, a line of Sharp-Dubi/Step-Gabby would really please me. Sharp can be a playmaker when needed as well, he sees the ice very well. Believe me I am all for signing BRichards but if he doesn't land in NY there has to be some sort of backup plan.
Whatever. Didn't realize it was that much. I don't watch that much Blackhawks but I did see a solid 30 games this year and he seemed to play with Kopecky a lot when I watched.
I don't think Sharp is all that good of a playmaker, and that's what we need more than anything. Plus he's gonna be a free agent soon (at which time I assume he is going to be overpaid).
Rangers won't do this. Despite the unhappiness in some quarters with the McIlrath selection--it should be obvious to anyone here that the team is banking on him to fill a particular role in the relative near future--2-3-4 years. So add Anisimov, Grachev and our 1st? Sharp is not a frigging superstar. They get 4 young players. We get a guy who may be done in 4-5 years. Way too much.
