He was on pace for a 20-40 year while dealing with two major injuries and no relief help from Malkin or Crosby....

How isn't that "producting" better?

Did I say that?

I said he produced slightly better. Don't know where you got that from.

The way I see it theres no need for staal to ever need to leave. If he progresses offensively then hell get his shot as a 2nd line center with malkin shifting on his RW and sid's. Theyll switch between the 3C model and stacking the top 6 depending on the opponent and the score.

Except that comparatively, he's much further ahead in his
development. His ceiling is much higher IMO.
At his peak, he will undoubtedly be a better player.

The main argument against him is that he isn't worth 4M.
Makes sense, he doesn't put up those kind of numbers.
(Hasn't hit 50. haha. Isn't 49 pretty much the same?)
While playing on the third line to boot.

People forget, he's really young.
He's only 22 for goodness sakes.

I do think he will be traded at some point.
He is not going to spend his entire career as a 3C behind Sid and Geno.
That would be a waste.

He will never become the player he could be, if that happens.

There's a handful of teams that would want him as their 2C.
And could have him as part of their core tandem...
(Others as their 1C....haha)

eg. CHI (Toews, Staal, Bolland), LAK (Kopitar Staal Stoll)

....God I hope not Chicago.
Two Selke finalists as your top 2 centres. WTF

GM Shero is in the driver's seat with this one. He's not an idiot.
I think he'd accept a king's ransom in a heartbeat.
Other wise he'll do nothing.
J. Staal is still very valuable to this team.

He'll also hang on to Staal L/T if the health of Crosby/Malkin lead to doubts about their future.

He's probably worth a 1st and a prospect. Maybe a 2nd as well(depending on how good of a 1st/prosect)
I am good, I don't think I need to re-visit this thread after that statement. Thank You. Thank You. Thank You. I am now cheering for your team (I was anyway!). Good Luck!

Sad that one of the worst proposals comes from Pens fan.

I'm not even going to shoot back at you my man. If you think Staal+established top 6 winger does not bring back a 30/30 winger then that's your view. Replace Kunitz with TK and a top prospect if you want. St. Louis lacks center depth, Backes is used as a center when he's a better winger. What would be fair value for Backes, fellow arrogant Pens fan?

I'm a bit crazy but staal would be surely the kind of player Martin Wants. A Plekanec type player with with Size.

I would pay a great deal for the kid, with some good minutes and good linemates he could put up 70 points.

Something like Mike Cammalleri benoit Pouliot 2n pick for Staal Kunitz, Letestu and a 1st pick (for the third line) the first could be taken out but i think it's a fair deal. with Malkin and crosby as centers you can manage the lost of Staal if you get a top winger like Cammalleri.

Cammalleri with crosby would net 40 goals and Pouliot has some ceiling.

We dump Gomez ( i'm dreaming here) and sign a guy like leino.

Plekanec Gionta Paciorretty
Staal Kunitz leino
letestu eller kostitsyn

Would look pretty slick IMO.

Staal was injured half the year and missed training camp.

Staal is 22 years old.....

Stop saying he's not broke 50 points like he's been way out of reach. He had back to back 49 point seasons. That's like saying he wont be a 30 goal scorrer because he had 29 goals his rookie year. If people are really going to say "he's not broke 50 points" like it's a huge deal for 1 damn point then they should not be taken seriously. 49 points while a 3rd line C is pretty damn good.

Who cares if Staal didn't step up without Crosby and Malkin? I'm giving him a pass because he was injured twice since the 2010 playoffs. Not everyone is going to step up every single year, so don't take much out of it. Might aswell say Neal wont be a good goal scorrer because he's had 2 goals since joining the Pens. Staal was also on pace for almost 60 points, and he probably would have got it if he played a whole season, not half a season.
