Matt Ellison

Hey,

I hesitate to post this as a rumour because it is information from a "friend of a friend", but I heard from someone the knows someone that is close to him, that Matt Ellison is going to try and get a try out next season with the Flames. I know it's not groundbreaking news or solid as far as sources go, and I am not sure where he would even fit.

He has some decent skill and could be a cheaper option to Stajan. I would think that the deal would be a two-way though.

PPG in the KHL this year with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod.

Not that bad, could be a decent depth move.

IIRC, he was traded to the Flyers years ago by Chicago for Patrick Sharp.

After that he was traded to Nashville for future considerations.

The Flames have had success keeping players from going overseas by giving them good money in the AHL on 2-way deals (I think Lundmark made over 200K in the AHL). Even if he only plays 10 or 20 games in the NHL he could make 300ish on a contract like this. More $ in Russia? Yeah, but at his age it might be worth giving it one last shot, and the decent pay could make it worth his while.
