Do we need another goalie ?

If he is still available after the 5th round, why not, but ...

I am more mad at the Bruins getting Riendeau and the Avs getting that other guy from Shawinigan (McNicoll ?).

I'd take him for sure. Watching him closely during the Rimouski-Moncton series, he was pretty impressive.

His teammate Savard (58) was great too.

I would wait more than one year before saying that we did the wrong choice...

Olivier Michaud was outstanding in the Q but he didn't had much sucess at the pro level... except that one good period

But if Riopel is still available after the draft, I would sign him.

Price and Halak or someone else (Garon, Nittymaki, Conklin etc.) would be in Montreal. Desjardins would be number one in Hamilton and Lacasse, Mayer and Riopel would fight for the backup spot. If Mayer or Riopel ends up 2nd goaltender in the ECHL, I think that they can go back to the Q as 20 years old if they need more playing time.

Sure, have the Habs sign him and then send him back to the Wildcats for next season. Cats are going to have trouble replacing him next year if he leaves IMO.

The glove didn't seem to be an issue in any of the games I've watched him in. Rio is a very good goalie as his numbers from this season show and I would love to see him in the Montreal organization.

Big inflated heads.
Seems a bit rash to be calling it a mistake since both goalies aren't out of juniors yet. Granted it doesn't look very good right now since Mayer has struggled with his consistency (at least in the games I saw) but who's to say he won't be the better goalie prospect in time? I wouldn't take that bet but I don't see the harm in waiting to see how it works out.

Yes and No. I don't think it would hurt to get another goalie prospect, but at the same time I don't think it's a major need outside the fact that none of our goalie prospects seem to have much upside. Desjardins seems to be the best of the bunch but I'd wait till he's at least had a full year or two as a starter in the AHL.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Habs draft Jean-Francois Berube, never saw him play but people I know that scout the Q have spoken highly of him as a possible steal due to his limited playing time this year.

As for Riendeau, I don't see the big deal. I like what I've seen from Masse. McNicol would have been a nice pickup as well, but so was Desharnais, Desjardins and Beauregard.

He can't do any worse than Price has done!!! We might as well rush every player we have in the minors instead of letting them develop properly.

He had a great year. I remember when Corey Locke won CHL player of the Year, and twice OHL player of the Year, good times.

The flyers released the rights to Nicola Riopel according to the flyers board.

The Riopel vs Mayer debate lives on! (yes I am that bored at work)

Because this is their year, all their other prospects turned out just fine and the only thing they need to guarantee the cup is the best goalie in the world, Illya Bryzgalov.

I had no idea who he was in, I think, NHL 10 and he was my starting goalie after both Halak and Price went down to injury. He was so good that I traded both Price and Halak.

Our goalie depth at this point is pathetic.

It's more than pathetic.

Technically Montréal's goaltending depth is

Price
Mayer

The others are UFA, released, or not signed to an NHL contract.

I haven't seen this guy play sounds like a free agent signing the Habs should give him an Amateur Tryout contract during the July 5th-9th Rookie development camp.Dell and Rawlings are really impressive college goalies at the June camp.

Saw him play a lot here in Junior, he's small but could be a decent AHL guy or even a backup.

The Flyers chose to let Joacim Ericsson go, maybe he could be someone the Habs could take a look at?

Ranked 50:th here:

Just throwing a name out, Ericsson was set on signing with the Flyers so I don't see any reason why he wouldnt come to NA if given the chance.

We can't really have goalie depth until Price gets older. Unless we want to use them as trade bait once they get to an NHL level.

I still think we should keep trying to develop one or more other NHL goalies...nothing wrong with depth at a position.
