There was a mention in the USA Today (Kevin Allen's hockey column) yesterday due to the salary cap availability of the Panthers. The Fort Lauderdale area newspaper which covers the Panthers picked up the story, too. It stems from the prior relationship Versteeg had with Dale Tallon.
Eh. I'd like to keep Versteeg if possible. A year w/ Richards may pay dividends and as an RFA next season he could get us a first rounder if he plays well this year.
I'd HAPPILY trade Versteeg for anyone making 900k or less who can play 3rd line or higher.

Apparently Erik Gudbranson could be available. I'd do a Versteeg + deal to get him. Gudbranson could make Carle expendable also.

Carle, Versteeg and 2012 1st for Gudbranson and Mattias. Gudbranson should be a top pairing when Kimmo is done and Mattias has good size which the Flyers could use a bitof up front. Might look nice on Carters wing

It more or less stems from he and the Panthers being unable to agree upon a contract last summer. Combined with the Erixon fiasco, people are putting two and two together and saying Gudbranson might not want to sign in Florida and will hold out and get traded.
I don't know if he's available or not, but Keaton Ellerby should be someone the Flyers target if they're moving Versteeg. I don't know if Gudbrandson would be available or not, but it would probably cost a heck of a lot more than just Versteeg. Wouldn't mind Kulikov or Markstrom either if Ellerby couldn't be had.....

Markström is slated to be their starter now that Vokoun is leaving, right? At least split with Clemmensen. Doubt we can get him. At all.

I'd like to keep him as well. At least until the trade deadline next year. He strikes me as the prototypical contract year player and now that he's had his surgery, I'm hoping for a motivated, healthy player that could get us a much better return at the trade deadline than he could right now.
Obviously the stars need to align a little bit, but I think it's a reasonable risk to take.
We're not getting Gudbranson people. I'd do something like Repik+3rd or Drew Shore and a late pick.

Pretty much. Sure he'd love to be a Flyer. He could likely see plenty of ice time as well and be mentored by the guy some are comparing him too, Chris Pronger.
