I don't like the Canucks much, but they are a legitmately elite team, unlike the Bruins who are good-but-not-great. The last thing the league is is copycat GMs who think Bruins goonery will win them a Cup. And the last thing my sanity needs is several months of additional Bruins hype followed by weeks of lamenting they are not fulfilling the ridiculous expectations they lack the horses to meet.

And, unfortunately, nobody will talk about how this proves that a good-enough team can win the Cup if all the ducks fall into place, which would be by far the most important takeaway.

I dislike it when people say the Bruins are the only goon team out there. The Canucks are just as bad and to me, even worse at times. Torres is a visible head hunter and other players on the team are known for disrespectful play to draw penalties. as well, I cant stand when Burrows, Kesler, and Lapierre run their mouths and and then run away. In short, both teams are nowhere near the team that Chicago was last year. These two teams are trying to win the cheap and dirty way rather than with skill.

I'd give him an offer as Halpern's replacement.

I guess the Rags are pretty confident that Richards will sign?

If his health and pricetag are alright, I'd consider bringing in Drury to fill the Halpern/Metropolit role.

Drury has not been a top-6 forward for years now, in fact he's been pretty terrible for them even when healthy. They can save 2/3rd of his cap hit, replace him with a bottom-6 grinder with no loss of effectiveness, and still have money leftover. This doesn't need to be related to Richards.

According to *************** ...

Leafs and Rangers have made an offer which satisfies the Stars GM in return for Richard's rights and now it is up to Richards to choose ..

Really? He great at faceoffs and a good veteran presence. If he's willing to sign for around 1mil or maybe less it can be a solid 3rd/4th line pick up.

I don't think he will have too much choice. He is not gonna get 3 million a season for sure. Plus, he's still being paid by NYR to compensate for the pay cut he is going to get

His buy out would be 3.7m with 1.7m to come next year. He was making 7.1m . He would be missing 2m to get his full salary. Maybe Gomez can call him to come over for 1.5m. Good face off man

Well, they don't really save 2/3 of his cap hit, they save 1/3 and the rest is spread over 2 years. Buyouts have always struck me as a bad move if the player can still perform well in a role, unless there's another move in the works for which the team needs cap space right away. Looks like Tortorella at least trusts Drury as a defensive specialist - see his ozone% of 38.7 in 09-10, and 34.8 in 10-11. Adding Richards is the only motivation I can see for this move. Who else on the UFA market will demand that kind of cap space?

If he can stay somewhat healthy and doesn't want to much, I'd be tempted to give him 12 months and see how he fares. With Plek, Gomez, Eller and DD, we could do with a right handed C. He may be past his best but he can probably still contribute in a lesser role if he can stay on the ice. It'd be more experience and leadership to bring to the room, another cup winner who has had highs and lows and who has often been clutch for the teams he has played for. Plus, although he isn't big, he's another player not afraid of the front of the net.

Well worth keeping in mind while having a look at other potential targets.

Higgins was way more productive than Pouliot with the Habs

That's cause he played with a better center.
