Agreed, that's why people set their expectations for free agents so high too. They expect them to come in and put up the same amount of points without looking at who they're playing with or what system they're playing in.

A guy like Gionta puts up comparable numbers as he did in Jersey because his goals are always scored the same way, hard work. It helps that he's honed all his skills under a defensive system too.

And that's only if we don't sign a ufa that could replace palushaj.

Haters keep failing. So many years of hate and he's still on the Habs, sorry guys!

His last season wasn't average, itwas his worst in yeas. Ryder was in Curbonneau's doghouse (he, heh) and didn't get much ice time.

If put on the right line AKost can be very productive,

don't bother with that poster, 90% of his posts are AK related, I guess that is why he became a HABS fan.

1 yer deal is perfect. Hopefully it will give him more incentive to perform and earn a better contract.

I hope to see him play on the 3rd line with Eller. they formed a good combo.

They will need someone better to fit into the top 6, i feel AK provides great depth but lacks consistency as a top 6.
I have a one-word rebuttal: GOMEZ.

The idea that a 20-25 goal-score with arbitration rights being worth $1.25 million is hilarious. Not even factoring in that he plays tough minutes on top of that.

I think he's a guy that would thrive on more ice time.
... and a Gomezectomy to remedy his disorder.

For all the complaints about AKost, did anyone notice that he took only 46 minutes in penalties despite dishing out the most hits?

Good point, another positive. Going on the penalty kill is basically the equivalent of -0.2 goals for a team.

I like the idea of Kostitsyn coming back for another year, just don't like the money he's getting.

Are there really much better 45-50 pts players getting less than that?

You're not going to find many players that get 20+ goals and lead their team in hits for less than $3.25 million a year.

Is he frustrating considering his talent? Of course. But I think that is our misconception of waiting for the breakout of a player that's probably peaked offensively.

The league average salary under the new cap for 11-12 is 2,25 mil.

So in essence, AK is 1 mil over the average league salary.

OMG, call the capgeek police.

Yeah, I always forget about the cap going up. My bad.

Either way though, I'm glad to see Kostitsyn back.

Didn't New York try Gomez and Jagr together... and found it was a miserable failure?

Glad he's back even though he can be frustrating. Really liked his physical game in the last part of the season. Be interested to see how good he can be with a new contract motivating him and maybe some consistent linemates.

Yep, if Kosty was more consistent we wouldn't get him for $3.25 million.

I have hoped for better from AK, maybe its the system, maybe some inconsistency, but I still like him. Size, skill, hes upped his physical game, and we have nothing to replace him. Id have preferred a 2 year deal for a bit more money, but I have a feeling neither PG or AK were looking for longer than a year.

Really? Check out guys with similar stats and see what they get. There might be the odd exception but I'll bet that contract is right in the ballpark.

And don't play the inconsistency card because every player who scores 20 goals also fails to score in at least 62 games... no exceptions.

Seriously, this is really good value. He still hasn't had a season where he's really broken out, and he's still potting 20 goals a season. The fact that he became a better checker this year makes him all the more well worth the value. He's not like Zherdev after all, who scored goals every once in awhile but did little else. Kostitsyn actually became a physically imposing player this year. It's a well deserved contract. If he wants to stay, he just needs to do what he did in the last 30 games or so, for the whole year.

Was to be expected with all the context. I think this is a good one, because it really put some pressure to Andrei, this could be a good spark, the guy will be 27 during next season he really is a veteran. Also it good value for a top 6 forward in the NHL. I don't except alot of change at forward at the start of the season.

Cammalleri-Plekanec-Kostitsyn
Pacioretty-Gomez-Gionta
Pouliot-Eller-Desharnais
Pyatt-White-Moen
Darche perhaps even a comeback for Halpern for his faceoffs

(still that lack grit and hitting IMO)
