LatvianTwist's Mock Draft

Eh, figured I'd make one.

1.
Edmonton Oilers
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Center, WHL (Red Deer)
Kind of a no brainer here, while Gagner isn't a bust yet, they should still be looking into another young center, and RNH and Hall on a line is just scary.

2.
Colorado Avalanche
Gabriel Landeskog, Left Wing, OHL (Kitchener)
The Avs probably need the most help now, and Landeskog steps in immediately and helps put some pucks in the net playing with Stastny/Duchene. He may end up getting passed up later on down the road, but he'll still look like a great pick years from now.

3.
Florida Panthers
Sean Couturier, Center, QMJHL (Drummondville)
The Panthers desperately need... well, everything except a goalie. After taking a defenseman this high last year and losing Horton, I see them going after a high-scoring forward, and Couturier brings them the offense they so desperately need.

4.
New Jersey Devils
Adam Larsson, Defense, Sweden (Skelleftea)
A defensive team with an offensive roster, Larsson helps anchor down their own zone, and they secure a #1 d-man for many years to come.

5.
New York Islanders
Dougie Hamilton, Defense, OHL (Niagara)
Seeming to have a solid offense in the making, they look to add to their list of top defensive prospects by adding Hamilton, making the Islanders look very strong in years to come.

6.
Ottawa Senators
Ryan Strome, Center, OHL (Niagara)
Looking to replace the hole in the top 6 after trading away Mike Fisher, they find their answer in Strome, and help boost a struggling offense.

7.
Winnipeg __________
Jonathan Huberdeau, Center, QMJHL (Saint John)
With a strong defense beginning to emerge, this team starts to look for a new look both on and off the ice, and adding Huberdeau greatly helps their offensive production.

8.
Columbus Blue Jackets
Ryan Murphy, Defense, OHL (Kitchener)
Needing a #1 d-man, they finally find their man in Murphy, who can quarterback the powerplay, move the puck extremely well, and put the puck in the back of the net without sacrificing in his own zone.

9.
Boston Bruins (VIA Toronto)
Sven Baertschi, Left Wing, WHL (Portland)
Looking to add to an already great offense, they get a forward who can change a game, as well as a world-class dangler who can keep hold of the puck.

10.
Minnesota Wild
Joel Armia, Right Wing, Finland (Assat)
Needing a scoring winger to complement Koivu, they finally find the perfect match in Armia, who's puck skills get him through anyone and a shot to match.

11.
Colorado Avalanche (VIA St. Louis)
Duncan Siemens, Defense, WHL (Saskatoon)
Needing to add another part to their defense, Colorado looks to return to great form with a strong defense and now a solid offense.

12.
Carolina Hurricanes
Mika Zibanejad, Center, Sweden (Djurgarden JR.)
A solid second line center behind Staal, they get a steal as Zibanejad falls to 12th.

13.
Calgary Flames
Mark McNeill, Center, WHL (Prince Albert)
Needing a #1 center, he puts pressure on Backlund and may even steal the spot himself later on down the road.

14.
Dallas Stars
Jamieson Oleksiak, Defense, H-East (Northeastern)
Maybe I'm just biased, but with a solid offense, this team only needs to bulk up on defense to be competitive again, and Oleksiak brings a hard-hitting, smooth-skating, solid shutdown defenseman, exactly what we need.

15.
New York Rangers
Tyler Biggs, Right Wing, USHL (U-18)
Another feisty player, he fits the Rangers mold well, and helps puts them over the edge and jump the gap, finally having a good chance at making past the first round of the playoffs.
(Cont'd.)

18.
Chicago Blackhawks

I don't think Ambroz will be picked in the first round.

Eh, I wasn't sure if he would either, but I couldn't think of anyone else for the Sharks.

Any suggestions?

1 through 7, I agree with you 100%, after that, it's all really a crap-shoot.

From a Toronto Maple Leafs perspective, Burke showed interest in Stuart Percy who should be available at 39 so they'll likely take two forwards with their 1sts. Personally, I think J.T. Miller is a guy they'll look at in the 1st round. He has a great frameplays excellent 2-way hockey, he'll go to the net and is showing a potential offensive prowess, as was displayed at the U18 WC (13PTS 6GMS + Gold Medal). Seems like a Burke type pick to me, oh, and he's American. Burke will move the 39th if he thinks Miller gets taken a few spots ahead of 25, otherwise, he'll take J.T. Miller (25th), Rocco Grimaldi (29th/30th), and Stuart Percy (39th). You heard it here first

Yea, I had Puempel in there, but I took him out since I had a couple guys who I felt had a better shot, but I might take Morrow out and put Puempel in.

I don't think Mika Z will fall to 12. But who knows? Someone will fall...

Not sure if serious. Conz will be lucky to even get drafted (at least in the first 5 rounds).

Really gutzy pick with Conz with Anaheim. Props

Could happen though (Doubt first round, but round 2)

Visentein got picked high. Fowler fell, if anyone had put Fowler that low you would have bee laughed off HF. It's not a bad prediction (gutsy however)

Yea, with the Conz pick, it was more just a random thing, and I think he'd be a good fit for Anaheim, just not nearly that high.

Well if he ends up drafted in round 5 I think you could say it was a bad prediction

I guess we now know who OP's picking to win the Cup this year.

All in all, solid draft. Would be just fine with Oleksiak, considering McNeill was just taken.

second half was total crap. I'm sorry. I've got nothing else to say. We'd pick a Gibson b4 Conz. Actually. I can list two rounds worth of players I'd take before Conz with the 22cd pick.

Haha, yea, I knew the second half was gonna be crap.

I don't know much about any of those guys, and was going more by position than anything, and I didn't want to just do the first half since that'd be a little strange.

And again, as for the Conz pick, I wasn't really being serious. But then again, anyone with Visentin in the first round or Fowler not in the top 10 would have been laughed off of this place, so you never know what's gonna happen.

Besides, Conz isn't that bad a choice and looked good at the WJC, and look at what Visentin's turned into now. I'm not saying something like this should happen every draft, but the door has certainly been opened.

Eh, from everything I've seen/read/heard, I'm not too big on the guy. I have him pegged at 31st, actually, but I'm not too sure why so many people have him going so high. I'm probably just missing something or just think badly of the guy, but I don't think he's a top 10 player at all.

You could... but the point is-

What if it's not?

I see him round 3-6

There is no star goalie (I have Perhonen going highest) but there is a bunch of them that could go between round 2 and 6

There.

Took Saad out, as I'm not really sure why I put him in there in the first place, and adding Beaulieu.

Ottawa most likely won't pick Beaulieu when a player like Jensen is available. Or Puempel. Ottawa needs the scoring winger or a high profile forward at least. We don't need any more defencemen at least with Cowen, Rundblad, Weircioch, Gryba, and Blood in the system we really don't need another D-man unless he is head and shoulders better than the forwards (where Ottawa is lacking).

Alright, thanks, I'll look into making a few changes, since I wasn't really sure on the situation in Ottawa, as the only thing I knew they needed was another center.

Finally took Ambroz out, added Miller with Toronto, and Ottawa takes Jensen, so now most of the picks seem decent (except for one ) and everything's been taken care of.

Any more suggestions?

Also, sorry to bring it up again, but after going undrafted for two straight years, I think his amazing performance at the WJC finally earns him a spot, and high, too. Maybe a bit too high, but I think this guys deserves a lot more credit than anyone seems to be giving him.
