I don't think Hecht would help us and Hecht is not what we need - with this Cap Hit

I stand by my offer of Jeff Schultz and a mid-round pick. You stay relatively young, save $750K, and get a guy who can play 20 minutes and PK very well.

LOL, that's a joke, right?

Maybe TJ Galiardi? He can play all three forward positions. Might have to work on his faceoffs though.

I would definitely do that if Smid isn't asking for much more than 1.8.

I could do with Gaustad and Butler.

It's not a salary dump, we can field a very competitive team next year and have no reason to trade Hjalmarsson. He had an off year last year, but that's only because him and the whole team had a rough start to the year. He was -13 to start the year in 12 games and finished with a +13.

Him and Seabrook are really our only 2 guys on D that hit to hurt.

Not only that, he makes 500k less than Mezaros cap hit, and Mezaros was coming off of 2 brutal years.

If you think Hjalmarsson is only worth a 2nd rounder, you're nuts.

That's what Hjalmarsson does, but better. Plus Hammer has chemistry with Seabs and Campbell, and Schultz doesn't know Chicago's system. It's not worth saving minimal amount of money.

Just for the sake of accuracy I feel compelled to point out that Hecht is actually a LW. Although after being into pressed into service year after year as a C for the Sabres, who routinely get all their real Cs injured, he can play either. I still think he is a little better at LW, though.

anything based around Hecht for Hammer is a go from a Buffalo perspective.

as valuable as Hecht is, Hammer is the type of guy we need on the blueline. He'd be perfect on Myers left side

Done. Hjalmarsson is the kind of player I'd give up Goose for.

Isn't Bowman in love with Hammer and thinks he's the next Lidstrom or something?

Hammer isn't available. Why would Bowman trade him a year after matching his offer-sheet?

Don't forget the swap of your first for Peg's 2nd, that makes the deal for me as much or more than the Hecht aspect.

From the Avs how about something along the lines of McClement + O'byrne for something like Hjalmarsson + 3rd. IDK about the exact value or whatever.
Great #3 C (I remember Hawks fans asking for O'reilly in an earlier thread) who's being underutilized and is relatively cheap (and will be relatively cheap to re-sign as well) on the Avs plus a cheaper young defender with size and physicality who can play with Campbell

Because at the time, he had to satisfy fans who were slowly watching their Cup-winning team fall apart. IIRC Bowman said not two weeks prior to the offersheet that he would not let Hammer get away, so he had to make good on his promise.

I don't get why he is available.

and for the offers... Jeff Schultz and a 3rd? Hecht as main piece?
you got to be kidding right?

Hjammer is a young Top 4 Defender under contract another 3 years. Now add that he has great chemistry with Campbell. They were the 2nd Pair of the Stanley Cup Winning team.
And the Hawks have no other DMen like Hjammer is

Of course he is available, he's a bottom-pairing defenseman making $3.5 million.
