I'd be cool with a deal for the 8th and Voracek, though I would like something else thrown in too. I have no idea if they would go for it but, I would be psyched on something like this:

TO CBJ
Carter
Carle

TO PHI
Voracek
Pahlsson
#8 pick

Maybe a little throw in of another pick from CBJ? Is that too much? But just check this team out...

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
James Van Riemsdyk ($1.654m) / Mike Richards ($5.750m) / Kris Versteeg ($3.083m)
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Daniel Briere ($6.500m) / Ville Leino ($2.750m)
Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Samuel Pahlsson ($2.650m) / Jakub Voracek ($1.270m)
Darroll Powe ($0.725m) / Blair Betts ($0.700m) / Andreas Nodl ($0.850m)
/ / Jody Shelley ($1.100m)

DEFENSEMEN
Chris Pronger ($4.921m) / Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m)
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Oskars Bartulis ($0.600m)
Braydon Coburn ($3.200m) / Erik Gustafsson ($0.900m)
Danny Syvret ($0.600m)

GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.525m) / Brian Boucher ($0.925m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $62,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,988,094; BONUSES: $850,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $411,906

Give whoever we take with the 8th pick a year to develop in the AHL (or let him play if he fits under the cap). Send Bob down to develop and sign a Boosh-esque guy (not necessarily Boosh, but someone of that caliber). Could even waive Shelley to make room for Bob. Thoughts? Probably a pipe dream, but that is a damn scary team.

EDIT: Also according to that article, Voracek's salary would actually be like $400k less so more money could be saved than I had originally thought (if that article is true, of course).
That's a bad deal. I wouldn't do it. Your giving up the two best players in the deal.

You think? Obviously Carter is the best in the deal, but I would say Voracek is at least as good as Carle and Pahlsson is a solid third line center who can play a little offense and some serious D. Plus you are getting the 8th pick in the draft, albeit a somewhat weak draft. If they through in their second rounder would you do it?

Why would the Flyers want Pahlsson as part of that deal? Voracek is a Forwards. Carle is a defenseman.

Maybe, but we'd only trade that for a defenseman eventually.

I'm not sure how much offense Pahlsson will chip in, he's gone 3-13-16 and 7-13-20 in the past two years with Columbus. Obviously he'll be with better linemates if he were here, but I don't think he'd be anything more than maybe a 25-30 point guy here.

I think Pahlsson is a decent player (should have won the 2007 Conn Smythe in my opinion), but you're talking $2.65M for your 4th line center even if you're giving up Carter in that deal. Claude Giroux isn't moving from center.

Oh, and I'm also not sure how many times it has to be said.

Ville Leino wants at least $3.5 Million. The Flyers have allegedly offered $2.8 Million. We're not getting him for under $3 Million.

Meltzer:

It has been reported that the Flyers' ballpark offer for the Finnish winger is somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.8 million. Through his agent, Bill Zito, Leino is reportedly seeking somewhere in the neighborhood of $3.5 million.

If he wants $3.5 million, then let him walk. He's good, but if Giroux is making $3.75 million, Leino is not getting $3.5 million (or at least shouldn't). I gave him $2.75 in my little scenario there because I felt he's worth about million less than Giroux.

Oh, I completely agree, that's why I've been considering him gone since that article came out. There's another floating around (think it's in the Offseason thread) that is an interview with him where he pretty much says he's testing the market and likes spending money.

It's not a weak draft. People need to stop saying that because it isn't true. Numerous scouts have stated there isn't a generational top player like a Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Stamkos, but there is a lot of solid talent available. They have compared a lot of the top talent to 2nd tier players like Bobby Ryan and guys of that nature.....

I like Leino but I doubt that there is another team out there that will pay him what he wants. A little over a year ago he couldn't crack the Wings starting lineup on a consistent basis. One nice year and a decent PO run or two doesn't merit that kind of money unless its with a bottom feeding team that needs to raise its payroll to meet the cap floor.

I don't totally want to go there, but Columbus is home for Jody Shelley. Surely we can find another enforcer for half the price. Eric Godard and Jay Rosehill are free agents.

Jeff Finger got $3.5 million. Anything can happen.

Jeff Carter to Columbus is very close. The Jackets previously offered John Moore, Cam Atkinson and a 1st which the Flyers declined
Edit: I don't like the deal that was supposedly declined.

If that's what kind of return the Flyers are considering, Holmgren is more of an idiot than I thought.

Voracek, Moore, and the 1st is the only thing I would accept.

I think John Moore would be a nice addition and Calvert is a nice piece, but I would rather have Voracek over both of them.

If Holmgren does do this, I would want to be in a position to draft Hamilton...wonder if the #8 is high enough.

Also assuming Homer does this, I wonder if he'll then package the #8 and Carle to move up in the draft and grab who they want. This rumor seems to have legs for a while now, so perhaps they've got their eye on someone.

I want Hamilton too if we don't slide into the top 5.

Remember that pick we sent to Anaheim in 2009?

We traded Sbisa, 2009 1st, 2010 1st, and Lupul for Pronger that year.

Anaheim flipped the 2009 1st to Columbus. They then picked Moore with our pick.

He's an underrated prospect for sure. Great two-way guy, but he's never going to be a heavy hitter offensively. He's solid, hard-working, and talented. He's also got some decent size.

Atkinson is an undersized winger who went out and became a stud for Boston College. He doesn't do all that much for me though.
