Peca-lite to the NYI

I'd like to see the isles get a player with strong, on ice leadership qualities. He doesn't have to be a big scorer. The Isles had 5 players score at least 20 goals. That was with little contribution from Okposo(shoulder surgery) and Bailey.

The player doesn't have to be a 1st liner.Just a hardworking leader, with plenty left in the tank(no aging players, struggling to just hang on in the league like the ex-Isles Doug Weight or Chris Drury).

Which player available in a trade or expected to hit the ufa market, fits the description of Pecalite??

Paul Gaustad might fit that description, but he isn't anything more than a 3b or 4th liner. Still, he's a fan favorite for his hard working attitude, hustle, and leadership qualities.

Halpern for free. He's a UFA. 34 and still has good wheels. Put up 26 points.

Who in the **** is Pecalite?

But for real, you guys should try to make a play for a guy like Simmonds or try to sign Laich.

Sorry about the confusion

I've been thinking about how the isles can go from being competitive,to being a serious playoff contender.I don't think that the isles have to get a high price 1st liner.

A hardworking leader who plays on the lower lines would work.I saw the Drury thread.I guess every board has one now.I don't want Snow adding anymore aging players, with little left in their tank.Been there, done that recently with the disappointing Weight.

Gaustad would probably be someone the Islanders would be interested in. We don't really need a top 3 guy, as we'll likely be going with Tavares/Nielsen/Bailey as the top 9 centers. And Goose is good enought to fill in on the 3rd line if there's an injury. He's better than Konopka at ES and PK play, and replaces his FO ability. A downgrade in the fighting department from Konopka, but with Gillies, Haley, Martin and Hamonic returning the Islanders can afford to lose that.

What would Buffalo want in return?

Came here to suggest Brooks Laich. He's a UFA, but due for a raise from the $2.67 mil he made the last 3 years.

Laich seems like a good fit, might be a bit out of our price range though.

22 yr old Okposo has played roughly 2 and 1/2 yrs in the nhl. He's never been through the grind of a playoff race.

I'd like to see the isles add a older player, one who kids like Okposo can lean on.

A Mike Fisher kind of guy.

Not many Peca-lite guys available actually.

Maybe try a Halpern of B. Morrison? Vet's, still can play, probably cheap. Idk.

Plus he's a former captain. Would love if Montreal resigned him, but it seems unlikely ATM.

Don't you already have that in your system? He's called Casey Cizikas - how about giving him a chance?

sounds like a guy like andrew ference would fit that type of role. although hes not for sale.

but great leadership, doesnt hurt you, does his job, always the first guy in to defend a teammate.

morrow was another the immediately came to mind, again not available

or ray whitney

Botta's saying the isles aren't re-signing Konopka and Weight's retired.Konopka supplied on ice leadership.Weight's contribution was limited to off ice mentoring.

It sounds like the isles really like Cizikas and I know from reading the message boards, that many fans are high on him.

I hope to see the Isles make a strong playoff run in 2011-2012.I'd rather not have Snow sit back and count on a 20 yr old rookie to provide leadership.

i didnt realize how much gaustad contributed offensively, i thought he was more of a 10-10-20 guy. not to mention, hes getting paid 2.3 million, i dont know if i want that on my 4th line for a budget team. he'd be my number one choice if we can afford it.

also, we do have 9 top 9 forwards next year in moulson, tavares, parenteau, okposo, nielsen, grabner, comeau, bailey and nino. bringing in laich means one gets traded.
