How about something realistic like Petrovic and Shore?

I felt Petrovic was a 1st round talent last year, so I'd be ready for that.

If you could trade 3rd rounders for perennial 20-goal scorers you wouldn't be in the league basement.
Getting Versteeg for Guds would be a travesty for us too. If we were to trade him to you it would be for one of your young centers, preferably Giroux (I assume he's pretty untouchable though). Prying Guds from us will take an overpayment, as he's big part of our team moving forward.

Yeah completely realistic. I posted Drew Shore/Petrovic being more realistic targets.

Do you think Florida would trade Quinton Howden for Versteeg?

No, but I'd love to get Petrovic.

Word from the Panthers camp is they can't agree on a deal. Guess he isn't THAT big of part of your future if he hasn't signed already. Also why are there rumors about him leaving if he is your future at D?

With the rumors going around, his stock hasn't really increased. Granted he probably is worth a lot, but I doubt no team would offer what the Panthers are looking for since they know of Gud's situation.

I don't think it was that, it was that the Panthers owners couldn't afford Gudbranson's bonuses.

Versteeg for a 2nd and any of Robak, Howden or Petrovic would be a fine way to clear some cap space.

Read up on Erixon. If Gudbranson decides to go back into the draft, you get nothing for him. It's unlikely you'll ever get a better offer before you lose him.

Perfect deal. As much as I like Petrovic, as long as Robak or Howden are available in that deal, I want either one of those, probably Howden and pick a defenseman with the 2nd.

Deals involving Shore/Petrovic/Robak and picks are definitely a lot more realistic. Howden's pretty important to us since we're thin on good forward prospects, and he's looking to be a stud.

All these rumors about Gudbranson leaving just sprouted up because he hasn't signed yet. That's it. Sometimes it takes a while to sign important prospects. Nobody of importance has said anything about him being unhappy with the organization or an inability to work out a deal currently. The rumors are just been people talking what ifs.

I'm only an armchair GM though. Anything could happen. If Guds or Howden do get traded I'd be extremely disappointed.

Gormley mentions Bergfors in this article. That would make four NHL teams in three years.

Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon might have an interest in Versteeg, a player he acquired from Boston when he was general manager of the Blackhawks.

With the departure of goaltender Tomas Vokoun, the Panthers are $40 million under the current salary cap and have plenty of room to add Versteeg.

They might be willing to part with restricted free agent Niklas Bergfors, a talented but underachieving right wing who scored 12 goals for the Thrashers and Panthers last season.

a salary dump gets us a 2nd rounder and the stank off our hang low. plus, if we can rid of carter for some youth we can sign bryzgalov and get gags back for all that defensive goodness we'll be missin without cartsey.

It's amazing what a difference a year makes.

It wasn't that long ago that Nic Bergfors was a 23 year old rookie with a 20+ goal season, and was arguably the center piece (he or Oduya) of the Kovalchuk deal.

Now he is coming off of a crappy year, Atlanta gave up on him for a third line rental player (Dvorak) and everyone thinks he sucks?

I like Versteeg, I want to keep him. However, if we HAVE to move for salary reasons, we could do a hell of a lot worse than getting back Nic Bergfors, who realistically could replace Versteeg's production for about 2 million less.

We brought in Leino for OKT. Bergfors would be a great buy-low move.

Agreed, Bergfors might've struggled last year, it's up to our scouts to find out why and decide if he would be worth it.

We brought in Leino for a 5th round pick. It was known the Red Wings were going to waive him, and I imagine Homer said he'd give him a 6th or 7th rounder, but if Holland took OKT, he would make it a 5th rounder...

It was basically, waive him for nothing, or get a late round pick.

This. I don't see why everyone is in such a rush to get rid of Richards' first legitimate winger in a while. Give the guy the chance to really prove himself. He's far more valuable to the club than whatever you'll get for him.

And I HATED the trade for him when we made it.
