He just 'wins' battles, everyones seen that. His 'rushed' plays are comparable to Alberts 'good' plays. BUT his big flaw seems to be taking HUGE hits to make plays but this is a sprint and I think he can give us a final kick.

^ Tanev seems to protect himself very well when taking those hits - might have something to do with being a 5' 3" shrimp in Midget?

the funny thing is when he was talking to the CBC folks after the game, he looked tense, nervous, out of place and just plain damn young and puny.

I'm not really sure how he does what he does at that age and with his experience.

But damn he was good.

Absolutely amazing poise for a guy who was in his Freshman year of college last year. He is so smooth with the puck...

Its nuts that a rookie can come into a game like that with very little experience and play the sort of calm, composed game that he did. The sheer amount of pressure in the building would make most rookies heads explode but Chris stayed Calm and produced a great performance.
If he can spend a good year with the 'Nucks next year and then work on building his offensive abilities we could have a seriously talented D-man on our hands!

The fact he is right handed makes him extra valuable. RH D-men are difficult to find, let alone ones who play with the composure of a 15 year vet and can move the puck effortlessly.

Tanev was unreal tonight. If only Tanner Glass had the same poise as Chris, the Canucks would have won 2-0 tonight.

That's my long-term concern as well. He is taking hits like the first 2 years of Edler's career. I used to think that he was going to be seriously injured. I think Tanev protects himself well, but he still has been hammered from behind - remember the regular season? He got hit from behind really bad.

With a guy that skinny, it'll take its toll over a course of the season or two, so i think he'll have to learn to adapt next season and beef up to absorb some of these hits.

And best KB quote of the playoffs?

Love how Tanev always manages to play a penalty free game - there wasn't another defender in the NHL that played anywhere near 30 games this season without taking a penalty. Defending without taking penalties is the most underappreciated skill a blueliner can possess IMO.

I love how this defense is shaping up longterm. Hamhuis, Edler and Tanev have us in good hands for a long time. 3 guys with such good sticks and so calm under pressure. 2 huge assets for how the game is trending to more speed and forechecking.

I still wouldn't move this guy for a mid 1st round pick. Where's the guy that thought that was funny? Is it still absurd?

Dave Gagner has earned himself a lifetime contract with this find. What a ridiculously good free agent signing.

“I don't want to use the same joke over and over,” began Bieksa with a twinkle in his eye, “but he could have played with a cigarette in his mouth.”
The kid was a boss on the Moose and now look at him skate. Tonight he was a defensive stud, staying positionally sound, winning battles, and completing all, but one outlet pass.

Maybe in a few more regular seasons and we will have another Hamhuis or perhaps a Lidstrom-lite on our hands

He cut from the same cloth as Hamhius...the similarities in their games are great for the future of this team.

The guy always seems to make a great pass even when somebody is closing in on him, he's not afraid to take a hit and he's not a very big guy. Love it.

Just the better choice over Ballard at this point. Ballard's got too much baggage to sort through and now is not the time for that. Tanev's got lots of confidence and very little pressure because he's not out there trying to justify his contract like Ballard is.

I have to admit, at work today I threw something unpleasant at the radio when I heard Tanev would be in for Ballard. Very, very, VERY happy to be proven wrong in this case.

Damn, GJ, Chris Tanev!

Indeed, with him playing that well I think the team is deeper on D than most fans actually thought.

That's probably part of it. More than anything, I think Tanev's game just suits the Canucks style better. It also suits the role better.

The only thing that phased him was being interviewed by Sportsnet panel post game. I have never seen a more awkward dude!

I was pissed that they didnt put him in in game four. Tanev has been pretty steady all season. He makes great passes. Did everyone forget because he only played 29 reg games?
