(Hockey Buzz article) Carter to Edmonton

Here's a decent rumor for you to start your weekend.

The Philadelphia Flyers are all about signing goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov to a long-term deal. One problem however: He wants money. Lots of money. Enough money to push Philly into bad salary cap territory. If Bryzgalov is to become a Flyer, someone has to go. Center Jeff Carter is perhaps the most moveable high-priced asset. Rumors are the Columbus Blue Jackets are making a big push for Carter that includes trading to Philly the 8th overall pick at the draft this month.

As we all know, the Edmonton Oilers lack a #1 center. What they do have going for them is plenty of young prospects. So if the Oilers wanted to acquire Carter, what would he be worth?

It seems like a semi-decent deal, but I wouldn't consider Gagner a 2nd line center. He hasn't scored more than 16 goals in a season in his 3 years in the NHL. I'd think we would also need to pull a prospect from them as well, but I don't follow them enough to know anyone in their farm system.

I would personally murder Holmgren if that trade happened.

Edit: This is far from a rumor. This is some blogger and blind speculation.

If Philly can get Voracek and 8th overall from Columbus, than Edm better have 1st overall in play to land Carter...

Gagner would probably be moved to the right wing if he got to Philadelphia. He and Giroux had some serious chemistry together at the World Summit Series (the Canadian Juniors vs the Russian Juniors). I wouldn't be opposed to Gagner because he's been misused in Edmonton.

However, I'd want more than two picks and Gagner if I'm Holmgren. I also want a defenseman thrown into the deal, maybe someone like Smid. That would allow the Flyers to deal Carle and get some more assets in return.

Thanks BCF16 I really am clueless outside of Taylor Hall, about Edmonton. Chemistry with Giroux is always awesome. In such a weak draft, the 19th pick is probably equated to the value of a 2nd rounder in a good year, with the 31st pick being a 2nd-3rd round pick value wise. We would definately need something else, and a D man would be great, because I do expect us to get rid of Carle.

If there is any merit to this then again people have to consider a multiple player and team deal. It seems people just keep treating these Carter rumors as standalone trades ....a bilateral trade when it's is looking more likely a multiple team deal is being discussed.

If I made a blog, made a post saying the Flyers should trade Matt Carle for Pekka Rinne, does that make it a rumor? This reads more like a blogger's pipe dream than anything else.

#1 pick and MPS? Is that too much? I haven't seen too much of MPS recently, has he developed into the type of player he is supposed to (or is he on the track to do so)?

That's more speculation than anything(thankfully). I'm not sold on Gagner, and the picks don't do much for me. I'd want MPS+.

For Carter? Entirely too much. Columbus is rumored to be offering Voracek and the 8th. That first and MPS will not be traded for Carter from Edmonton's POV.

I didn't think things could get less credible than Eklund's rumors. Hockeybuzz speculation? That's a new low.

Edmonton would never give up the 1st overall or Taylor Hall so it sounds like he's going to Columbus.

Gagner would be the 4th line center here.
