Heritage Classic will not be held next season

This according to a report on ESPN.com.
It may return the season after, though.

They should do the same with the Winter classic.

It should be less frequent for Canada with only 7 teams anyways and even less viable stadiums to do it in.

So it's 1 outdoor game per season or 1 US outdoor game per season?

Never had a mind for business anyways. Besides, I care more about the value of the game then the profit of it. Ice is pure crap, puck bounces like a super ball, players are freezing and when it snows, it's even worse.

Its one game a year and has a net benefit for the league.

One outdoor game a year on New Years day is fine, more than that is too much.

That's too bad, I would've loved to see Winnipeg hosting next year's Heritage Classic. What an atmosphere that would've been.

They're gonna profit enough this year from Winnipeg. The season after, yea. Can't milk the cash cow too fast or it'll dry.

That's too bad, I've been to two and one winter classic and was hoping to get to see another live this season.

Why?

The Winter Classic is part of one of the most watched games in the US. I don't see why the NHL should remove it at all. Not to mention, the great NHL exposure and HBO.

The Winter Classic -- and the Heritage Classic -- have brought more positive attention to hockey than any other event of the past decade, aside from the Olympics. And it reconnects the sport to its roots in a beautiful way. To can it -- not to mention disconnecting from the Olympics -- would be a truly insane move.

I will not miss it one bit.

Its funny that some of the highest rated games in the US are the ones played outdoors on crappy ice with a fraction of the entertainment value.

If the States needs gimmicks to get them out, then good for them. Up here in Canada the original was neat way back in Edmonton & the Tuques but why Freeze, when we all got new arenas & Sat Dishes? Lets play the Habs/Oilers again in 20 years, until then... Bag it!

Don't knock it until you try it Habs23. Sure it's cold, and the weather conditions mess with the play and the ice conditions suck. It's quite the rush though to sit amongst 40K+ hockey fans. Also the parties that go on before and afterwards definitely help add to the excitement.

I will agree with those that don't find the games entertaining while watching them on tv. I PVR'd the last one and watched it a couple of weeks ago. I know we lost, which was a bummer, but the game itself was pathetic. At some points I felt like I was watching a bunch of kids playing road hockey with a tennis ball.

After a few "cold ones". You quickly forget how cold it is, or where you are for that matter.

Tell me about it, sometimes I think I've made a mistake and I'm on the Bruins board.
