Continuing our off-season rebuild we're pleased to announce the signing of forwards Alex Brunette and Anti Mietennen.
Brunette, who brings veteran leadership and an offensive game that includes a strong net presence on the power play, has agreed to a 3-year deal worth $3M per year.
We've also added Brunette's former Wild teammate Anti Mietennen, who agreed to a 4-year deal for $2.5M per year. His addition, along with Brunette, and Ville Leino, will go a long way to improving our power play, which ranked 29th last year.
Mietennen, a solid two-way winger, and the additions of Maxime Talbot and Zach Bogosian, significantly upgrade our PK as well which was 22nd in the league last year.
Injuries and poor special teams play sunk us last year. We've addressed the special teams while remaining one of the league's top teams in the face-off dot. We gave up our top winger Rick Nash, but in exchange we added Leino, Brunette, Mietennen, Wheeler, and Talbot to our forward lines. And Bogosian to our blueline.
We also signed Josh Harding to come in and chalenge Steve Mason for the #1 goaltender job here.
We full expect a return to the playoffs for the 2011-12 season, and to finally make it past the 1st round with a deeper roster, and more effective play in all facets of the game.
