I don't really know what the Flyers would want, though. Maybe an NHL ready prospect on an ELC? Makes sense, as they need fillers while they work with the cap. Maybe a Grachev would be of interest? He could fill in a 3rd/4th line role and is easy on the cap.
An interesting proposal. Would you be averse to moving down a round from the second to third in either this or next year in order to get it done?

I think Versteeg is the odd man out. Islanders adding Carle would be nice but a tough deal for a team looking long term and Carle with one year left on the deal. Never know, the two teams have dealt in the past.

Think if the flyers can move/dump Versteeg/Walker they'll be close to making the new cap work for them.

If I had to guess Carle's value tradewise, it probably would be straight up for the 34th pick

I would do Grachev and a 2nd in 2012 for Carle and a 2012 3rd; the Rangers have no 2nd or 3rd round picks this season.

The Flyers have Carter, Versteeg, Hartnell, Carle and to lesser extents Coburn and Meszaros that they can trade. Multiple teams have show interest in each of these different players so the Flyers would probably have in the neighborhood of 25 offers they can consider. Unlike what morons on message boards think, these players are actually VALUABLE and WANTED by other teams. If your team has a certain "need" and one of these players fills that specific "need" then you aren't going to sit back abd "low ball" the Flyers in HOPES of getting that player when not only are there other teams interested in that player but there are other options the Flyers can exercise to get the cap relief they need.

Teams WILL pay actual player value and NOT less just because the Flyers want/need to shed some salary. You are dreaming if you believe otherwise.

Now, if you want to debate what Carle's TRUE value (or any of the other guys value) is then that's fine but don't sit there and say "oh, they have to move him so I can pay pennies on the dollar for him." It simply won't work that way.

and once philly signs illya for way too much and way too long, the other GMs can just sit back......and either get the deal they offered earlier or just watch philly try to worm their way under the cap.

You're assuming the other GMs are all thinking alike, and not one of them is greedy enough to pull the wool over the eyes of the other interested parties. No one is going to sit on their rear if there's an asset out there to improve their teams.

Your mastery of the english language alone is worth a 3rd and a prospect.

Katic + 3rd (the one we don't give to ANA for Wisniewski)?
Not unless the injury train is full of D-men.
