Finally, if the above wasn't reason enough to avoid Boston, I've never seen an uglier collection of women in any city. No wonder Va-Va-Vancouver is getting play in the Boston media.
I went to Boston a few years ago and I noticed the exact same thing. No wonder the male fans are so unpleasant.

au contraire. according to a bostonian on this forum a couple of days ago, vancouver women are not attractive at all-- i mean, it's practically just a chinatown and bollywood.

Being as multicultural as Vancouver is, there are women of all colours. Believe me, there is no comparison between Boston and Vancouver when it comes to the ladies.
I walked around Boston all day on Wednesday (game 4) wearing my Canucks jersey and hat. I had a fair number tell me that I had guts, or that I was taking an undue risk, but not once did I feel threatened (though I did get tired of the biting jokes). For the game, I added green track pants to the ensemble and still had absolutely no issues. Fans in my section were all cool, and there were no other Canucks fans near me aside from my 2 buddies. We had some friendly jabs but it was a great time.
The only issue I had was after the game on my way out using the washroom. Some guy decided to try to walk through me and drop his shoulder. I made a comment that there was no need for that, and his buddy started yelling obscenities about Canadians and what awful useless people we are. I spent 5-10 seconds trying to get one sentence out ("look at your lineup") then gave up and just used the washroom and left. I had had my share to drink, but I didn't notice a single person in the washroom aside from that group of 3 supporting them, and if anything people seemed stunned, recognizing he looked like a fool, and ready to break anything up if necessary. Even at that, he left me alone once I started blatantly ignoring him.
I kept my jersey, track pants, and hat on after at the bar and then for the 30min walk to our hotel, and had an absolutely great time. We didn't go to the all-Canuck bar, but rather to one nearby that was predominantly Boston fans. Everyone was just in the spirit of the finals, and I even had some Boston fans by me shots, etc. It's been said, but there are bad apples everywhere. By-and-large, it's not hard to avoid them and still have a good time.

i was being sarcastic. of course i agree with you. i have been to boston... and at times felt like i was the only non-white person in the whole city.
I've seen it happen in Vancouver too, I got in a fight with an Oilers fan who spilled beer on me. Seen a few altercations, it happens. Gotta expect it if you go cheer for the road team.
I have had a few blonde girls tell me off in the Washington Metro while I was talking to my friend about the game after the game in DC. It was quite good natured though, but with 2 huge "Townies" from Boston as roommates, I know what they mean about their agressiveness against road team fans.
Verbal abuse is fine. If we are going to wear an opposing team's jersey and cheer for our them while in another team's barn; I expect it. It's another story though if there are kids present. I just feel like it's extremely disrespectful to expose children to that kind of an environment.
Physical abuse is not okay. I don't care what the Ducks fan said to that Canucks fan in that video, to (try) and beat him like that from a row higher with all that leverage was cowardly and embarrassing. Likewise with any Boston fans who physically abused any Vancouver fan. That is when it crosses the line.
I've had my fair share of abuse when in Calgary as a Canuck fan, but never once have I been assaulted. Also, there is a responsibility as an opposing fan to know your limits and stay within it. If you get too bashful, and put yourself in any position to get harmed, then you have to face the music.
End of the day, it usually takes two to tango, so you have to be careful as an opposing fan.

That's an excellent story. Thanks for sharing that.

Wow, even the guy trying to come to the defence of Boston fans and explaining how nice the majority of them are, got physically and verbally assaulted in a bathroom because of his Canucks jersey. Sad.

If you aren't expecting to be verbally engaged when you go to an opposing arena in jerseys of another team, you need to give your head a shake...
Heck, just go and listen to what happens to people in Rogers Arena when they wear a Hawks/Flames/Oilers jersey.
When I worked security for Orca Bay a few years ago we had a couple of old drunk Canucks who attempted to choke out a young Oilers fan with his own flag. The rest of the section was calling for the old guys to be thrown out but it just goes to show you there's loonies in every group.

Definitely a slimey thing to do, but you have to admire the old drunks grasp of ironic symbolism.
I was at both games in Boston, and can echo the comments of most at how classless the Bruins faithful were. I believe I am in an excellent position to comment on the relative behaviour of fans, as I was in San Jose for Games 3 and 4 and have been to 20+ opposition arenas to cheer on the Canucks. I can unequivocally say that my experience in Boston was the worst, and the bad press that Boston and their fans are getting is well-deserved. Yeah, there were some good and classy fans, but the sheer number and percentage of idiots was astounding.
Just as an example:
- Canucks fans at The Fours started chanting "Go Canucks Go". After that chant, the Boston fans starting chanting "You are Gay". Really?
- When I was in the bathroom, one fan started yelling "You ******" and similar other homophobic slurs. I responded with "stay classy", to which he said "why do I have to stay classy?". Way to go, bud.
- The sheer number of times we heard "Go home Canadian" or "Go back to Vancouver" was hilarious. Almost always by clowns with Orr, Neely, Lucic, Bergeron, O'Reilly, etc. jerseys.
- There were a number of Canucks fans of East Indian descent at the bars and games. I heard "terrorist" references at least a dozen times.
- At Game 4, a fight broke out in the stands between Boston fans. One guy landed on a few of my friends, and blood from this idiot went all over my friend's jersey and back/neck. Yet it was my friends who got escorted out with no apologies.
- After Game 4, a group of 12-year-old hooligans were shoving their fingers in the faces of oncoming Canucks fans (real original). Cops were standing idly by doing nothing.
- I can't count the number of times people thought they were being nice by saying to us, at least you're not "Frenchies" or from Quebec.
This is just what I can think of off the top of my head. At the end of the day, Boston came off as an ignorant, homophobic, racist, misogynistic city to me and many others. The good people were outnumbered by the bad. I had been to Boston a few times in the past, and will never go back to spend my dollars there. Its reputation is well-deserved.
Oh, and if I never hear the New England accent again it will be too soon.

Thanks for the post, always nice to hear from somewhere who was there.
And I'd be embarrassed if this sorta stuff happened at Rogers. Glad it isn't.
One of my friends from Vancouver asked me why I hate Boston so much. I hope in the last few days, she's found her answer.
KICK THEIR BUTTS! Won't change the fact their fanbase is despicable, but it'll gut them, which is good enough.
If Vancouver finishes off Boston tonight. You can relish in the joy of the stunned and mortified crowd at the TD Garden forced to watch the Canucks celebrate in their arena. I have to say watching that happen to Washington last year was awesome.
Friend of mine got jumped for wearing a Canucks jersey (and mouthing off I would assume) on Friday night... In CALGARY! They didn't get him too bad, but there was a bunch of them. I think the Alberta hate may be leaning towards creepy here...
Same as any sporting event anywhere, there can be trouble if you're looking for it, or wandering in the wrong neighbourhood late at night...
Stupid people are stupid, no shock here. Although I always get a kick out of Americans being completely clueless of the differences between Montreal and Vancouver. That's like comparing Boston to San Fransisco.
