Are the Habs better than the Canucks?

.... or do Price, Subban, Cammalleri, Gio, Gill... and Martin, Muller & Pern, for that matter, just have a better handle on what it takes to play the Bruins in Boston?

Watching these finals, I might almost be tempted to think that Montreal has a superior team than Vancouver.

(I know... its all in the matchups)

Thoughts?

No, they are not. Not even close. Vancouver has the Habs beat everywhere except for goaltending.

No, I just think Chara and the B's are a bad match up for the canucks

Although I agree with you, that's when your coach comes into play. I mean it's not like the Bruins were the best matchup for us either. For me I see a VERY stubborn Vancouver team who just refusses to adjust to things.

With Markov, I think we're better than both teams. This is one of the weakest Stanly cup finals match up in years.

Of course, we have back to back Art Ross winners/twins Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta.

Of course its true that Vancouver are missing Samuelson and Hamius...

Gotta be fair here...

ps. The speculative question is purely for fun and amusement... obviously

Gomez 140gp 99pts = .71ppg
Gionta 93gp 60pts = .65ppg

H Sedin 88gp 65pts = .74ppg

In all seriousness I believe we play a much better team game than Vancouver, despite a weaker lineup. I think that may be more in part to us having better leadership and coaching though.

the cup was wide open this year, what a terrible year to be decimated by injury. Makes the Bruins run sting even more, could of easily been us with a hot goaltender and timely scoring.

Was going to post the same thing. Of course, we also play them a lot more, so that familiarity makes preparation and chalkboard sessions easier to plan. And since they've tried many different combinations against the various Bruins lines, it's quicker and easier to choose match-ups that you have confidence in.

I'm pretty sure the Canucks are the strongest team Boston has faced, except that every goaltended faced by Boston since escaping the Habs has completely fallen apart.

The Habs aren't THAT far off from the Canucks (Montreal is a very strong puck possession team) but the main difference is that their goaltending held up, whereas Boucher, Roloson and Luongo have all been dreadful.

Canucks are a mixture of size and speed who get sucked into Boston's tactics where Vancouver can't compete.

Montréal is pretty much all speed and have learned to avoid getting sucked in for the most part.

The league should take back the Vezina nomination from Luongo and give it to Price. Even at his worst when he was still learning on the job, Price was never as bad as Luongo's performances in Boston.
