Marchand/Gallagher

Is it just me or do Brad Marchand and Brendan Gallagher kind of mirror each other?

Talent Analysis (taken from HF)

Marchand is a little spitfire who doesn't know the meaning of the word quit. An agitator in the corners, he likes to get his nose dirty and battles for the puck. He has some solid moves in the offensive zone, but occasionally gets himself into trouble by trying to get too fancy when a safe and simple play would do. A quick skater, he'll have to continue to overcome his slight stature for the rest of his career.

Couldn't find a good write-up about Gallagher but I bet it would say about the same. I was just wondering what people thought on here, if they thought Gallagher could one day be as good as Marchand. Marchand isn't that much bigger 5'9 183, so i think the comparison is justified (Gallagher i imagine will be about 5'8 175 when he gets the call eventually).

This. And that really hurts you when you're 5'8.

Marchand is not fast in a straight line, he's like Cammy, more agile and elusive.

I don't know a whole lot about Gallagher, but I get the impression that he's less annoying and agitating, and more feisty.

But I see where you're coming from.

Not an apt comparison. I'd take Marchand for size, toughness, and skill. That doesn't leave much for Gallagher, does it? Maybe a less ugly nose?

Gallagher seems like Cammalleri to me. He might have an edge, but not the douchery of Marchand. He's got a good shot from what I hear, hopefully it will work at the NHL level. Apparently his conditioning is wild too. If he doesn't make it to the NHL it won't be because of a lack of effort.

This wasn't about who's better. My comparison is bang on--Gallagher gets into fights, plays a bit dirty, has a mean streak--just like Marchand.

It doesn't appear that Marchand is that much faster than Gallagher. and even if he is, i don't think it matters that much--Gallagher is fast enough to play in the NHL, and isn't afraid to go into the dirty areas, unlike career AHLers like Corey Locke. I don't know, they have a similar vibe to me.

Gallagher is much tougher than Marchand. Marchand has never fough his own battles, he's a **** disturber who hides behind Chara Thornton and co

As far as size they were the same size at 18-19. Marchand is probably a few lbs heavier at 22 than Gallagher 18/19 but let's give him a couple yaers to add muscle.

As far as skill Marchand has an edge, but it's pretty close at the same age.

Marchand at 18...57 GP 33-47-80(1.40 PPGM in the QMJHL) 2nd in team scoring 5 other guys over 50 points.
Gallagher at 18...66 GP 44-47-91 (1.38 PPGM in the WHL) Led his team by 41 points this year.

Purely based on stats, Gallagher had a better year at 18, similar PPGM in a tougher league with little to no help.

My impetus for writing this thread was to pump people about one of our prospects, but i guess it's not really turning out that way, lol.

Your comparison isn't very good IMO.

Marchand is more of a defensive player than an offensive threat. Marchand is fast, Gallagher isn't. Marchand doesn't fight, Gallagher doesn't so much either, wait until he's in the NHL before sayiing he does fight.

Haha..I don't think the writer ment to, but I saw this as a pun and had to re-read it lol..as for Gallagher and marchand comparison, I see Gallagher as a promising prospect and could be a little like Marchand I guess.. I just hope he isn't as bratty as Marchand.

What stands out to me in Marchand, other than his nose, is his breakout speed. He uses it really well to create offense but he's also a good all-around player. Gallagher doesn't have that extra gear but he does have the tenacity and lack of size of Marchand.

I think Gallagher plays a similar game to Eberle, as he cuts to the net and uses his soft hands to score beautiful goals near the crease. Not saying he'll be as good as Eberle or anything though... just comparing styles.

tonight? As much as I hate the kid, he's been very good since the beginning of the playoffs. Actually, he was pretty good this season.

I've seen him play a bit, I think people here are underestimating how good Gallagher is. He isn't that slow, he's strong as an ox and has nice vision and a decent shot.

Who knows how that will translate into the NHL, but I like his chances, the kids a winner.
