Heritage Classic cancelled

Just saw on the TSN ticker that the NHL is going to cancel the Canadian Heritage Classic next season.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=368620

Found the article. Maybe we can switch the tag from speculation to TSN

Didn't see an article about it yet on the website so I put speculation for now
Wow, I guess the NHL REALLY doesn't want us playing in an outdoor game. They'd rather cancel it than put their most profitable team in the most profitable event of the year.

Makes sense right?

P.S. We better be in the WINTER Classic.

Maybe i'm the only one wondering how this is news.

The Heritage Classic has never been an annual event and there was never any indication of there being one next year.

If this is true then that's bs. We know the canadian teams aren't going to be in the winter classic, so the herritage classic was a nice alternative.

No they would rather plan it and do it right then rush out 2 outdoor games per year and lose the appeal pretty quickly.

There is 1 outdoor game next year and we are not in it.

Yes but why doesn't anyone seem to realize they were held like 8 years apart?

maybe that means there's a Canadian team in it?

I'm going to take a guess and say Vancouver is going to be in it.

Are they just trying to maximize viewership for their Winter Classic? I mean.. Canadians would definitely watch both games

Personally, I think consolidating the games so there is only 1 is a better business decision considering the goal of the Winter Classic.

Personally, I think the All-star game should be the only outdoor game.

I think if they made the right decision in only having 1 outdoor game a year. You don't want the event to lose any of its appeal to the fans.

This really doesn't surprise me. To be honest, I don't know where they could hold one besides Calgary or Edmonton at this point. Yes, there's options, but there's no truely good options.

I totally agree with the Allstar game idea.

As much as I think it would be cool to have a Leafs Habs Heritage classic, the dark truth the NHL doesn't want us to know is, most players hate these games. They cannot say it, because it is a big promotional thing, so they have to talk it up and go on about back yard rinks and pond hockey, but it is the truth.
It's fine as an exhibition game, but when the points count in the standings, it just isn't right.

who cares if the nhl players don't like the outdoor games

it promotes the game and it expands the game to new fans

what nhl players do liek is loads of money and the outdoor games help ensure that they will get that money for a longer period of time

fans love the outdoor games and fans who see it live get interested in the nhl. What i would do if i was the nhl I would give away 1000 tickets to students in the city where outdoor game is being played thus ensuring new fans!

Yup, I think they are a flash in the pan. Having two a year was really milking it. Should be an event held once every 5 years.

How many people that show up to these games are not already fans?
