ALL hockey players (NHL, AHL, prospect, otherwise) we have acquired from Edmonton during the Scott Howson era:
Raffi Torres (trade)
Dick Tarnstrom (trade)
Ethan Moreau (waiver claim)

If you count UFAs, add Jan Hejda and Matthieu Roy.

NOTABLE hockey players (read: NHL minutes, or current AHL prospects) we have acquired from EVERYWHERE ELSE during the Scott Howson era:
Aaron Rome (trade)
Clay Wilson (trade)
Ted Ruth (trade)
Jonathan Sigalet (trade)
RJ Umberger (trade)
Fedor Tyutin (trade)
Christian Backman (trade)
Michael Blunden (trade)
Jason Williams (trade)
Wade Dubielewicz (waiver claim)
Chris Gratton (waiver claim)
Antoine Vermette (trade)
Anton Stralman (trade)
Michael Ratchuk (trade)
Milan Jurcina (trade)
Chris Clark (trade)
Nathan Paetsch (trade)
Sami Lepisto (trade)
Scotty Upshall (trade)

If you count UFAs, add about eleven or twelve more guys, including Commodore, Huselius, MacKenzie, Wilson, Peca (played for Toronto last), and Garon (played for Pittsburgh last.)

If I included prospect and/or minor league trades, this list would about double in size and the Edmonton list would be (IIRC) untouched.

So, can we please stop bellyaching any time Edmonton is mentioned?

As for Hemsky himself - I wouldn't mind having him on the team, but our priorities should be elsewhere.

Viq - its because any time there's mention of CBJ trade rumors EDM is ALWAYS mentioned....i don't care if we only traded 3 times with them...there's nothing on their roster that I want...a lot of young kids that may or may not pan out...

So what you're saying is, "take away Scottie's phonebook, period!" Am I correct?

With the exception of RJ, Fedor, and Vermette, the rest didn't pan out. A blind monkey could hit that average.
(Yes, Upshall was a good trade, but at the wrong time -when we were already sunk).

No, I'm saying SHUT THE *********** HELL UP ABOUT ALL THIS "O NOES ITS AN EDMONTON RUMOR" ******** ALREADY. Because it has zero basis in reality or fantasy. And it is SERIOUSLY GETTING ON MY VERY LAST ******* NERVE.

(Also, you're overlooking the fact that many teams make many similar trades which "don't pan out" (ha ha ha). And you're overlooking the contributions Williams made while he was here.)

Ive never seen a more overrated player. If we trade 8th overall or Jake for him I will count on another horrible season.

I'm just tired of everytime EDM comes up in any kind of a trade it's always "you need Hemsky to play with Nash".

No we do not. We NEED a lot of things Hemsky is not one of them.

I've seen plenty who are far more overrated.

The Edmonton theory is that there's nobody to "protect" him and so that's why he keeps getting injured. I suppose there could be something to that, but that situation would not necessarily improve here.

I really do like the guy a lot. He truly is a skilled, near-PPG player. The problem is, that still only gets you 40-60 points a season.

I like the guy. My take on injuries are there are 3 basic sets of injuries: 1 group of players get injured sometimes just by playing and taking hits. I don't don't think are more susceptible to getting hurt, it's just happened. Hemsky is in this group. The second group are players who either don't take care of their bodies or are aging. Griffey Jr was this kind of player. Griffey avoided the gym according to reports from Lou Pinella and other player he played with. And he paid the price with his hamstrings later in his career. The 3rd group are players who cant tell the difference between pain and injury. This is a group you see more in the MLB & NBA and not in the NHL.

I will be in the minority, but I would make a play for Hemsky. And I would negotiate from the position that the player is frequently injured, so we certainly wont give up much and take on this risk. Even though in truth, I don't think the risk being taken is higher then any other player.

i liked it at the trade deadline for salary dumps! not so high on it now. Perhaps for the 8th pick and move on, but any other parts added will be a huge overpayment. Great player (not overrated), but is injured all the time. we need people who can play 75-82 games a year. Spezza anybody??

Maybe we trade for Hemsky and then use our other assets (Voracek/Brassard/etc....) to trade for a defensemen. Who knows. It is fun to read these rumors and discuss them, but none of us really knows what Howson is trying to do.

Yes, the real challenge with Hemsky besides his injury history is his contract situation. I have no problem if Howson acquires him; I just would not want to give up a major asset like the 8th overall for Hemsky.

Howson doesn't have a lot of ammunition, and he should spend it to bolster the team's weakest area, the defensive corps unless a golden opportunity like a Carter presents itself.

I want people who know how to win and hate losing.

Edmonton's track record in recent years isn't helping my opinion of what Hemsky could bring to this team.

Then be prepared to fire a lot of the players and start over. He's like a more skilled Juice. He's not going to change the culture in the room, but then again how many players are going to fall into our laps that will change the culture in the room?

Not my first choice, not my last either.

I don't care who we trade with. Getting upset because we've got a rumor with EDM is kind of silly. It's always going to happen as long as Howson is our GM because of the ties to his other team. Doesn't mean they are real or that Howson is targeting his old team more then any others.

I am not sure why we would be interested in Hemsky. He is not really upgrade over Juice except he plays on the right wing. Juice actually has better numbers.

If we move the 8th for Hemsky I will be very upset.

Points-per-game really only helps if he can stay healthy. That's not been a skill of his of late.

True, but I was just pointing out to FiveHole23 that he IS better than Huselius.
