Cool. I've never actually seen him play but I like all the stuff I am reading about him.

Consider me a happy camper. Fully expecting him to play most of next season with the big club. As Meltzer blogged about yesterday, he's something the Flyers have been lacking, a tough dude who can actually play some hockey (i.e. aaron asham)

Actually his number will be interesting. If we sign Bryzgalov, the less he makes, the better chance he has of making the team.

I'm guessing it's a 1-way contract with a lower cap hit.

2-way contracts often have a cap hit around $.900M because the player isn't making nearly that much in the AHL. I'd rather see him sign a 1-way with a cap hit around $.600M. Start him in the AHL if he doesn't play well in camp/preseason. If he sucks in the NHL after being called up, put him through waivers and see what happens.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I certainly think he does. People have to stop thinking of him as a young Jody Shelley and start thinking of him as a young Asham / Brashear type player who uses his toughness to open space for linemates.

Even if all he is is a young Jody Shelley, he'll be Jody Shelley with half the cap hit

Watching him often in the AHL, and a little with the Blue Jackets, he reminds me of the new tough guy breed like Shawn Thorton.

Poor man's Chris Simon.
Even if he makes the club I still think Shelley stays.

Just out of curiosity...what are the rules surrounding the salary differences on 2-way contracts?

Can you give a player a 2-way contract where the AHL salary is close to the NHL salary, or is there some kind of proportion?
