Yeah I'm probably going eBay tonight. Crappy thing is eBay's buy it now fees are ridiculous, plus Paypal fees, plus shipping, plus depreciation, so I'd probably only get $100 or so for the whole shooting match, not to mention I'd have to pack it and deal with shipping and all that hassle.

Yeah I used to work for GameFly and I know what you mean...I loved having an account but the only reason I loved it was because I got it for free....you could never get the brand new games unless you got really lucky...then I would keep games longer than it would be worth it if I actually had to pay. And also the reason I had a job was sooooo many games were lost through the mail and I had to respond to people's emails about the issue...so it's not the most reliable service.
I was a GF member for a few years, and Gamefly just doesn't have a distribution infrastructure even close to what Netflix does. It's manageable on a 2 game plan if you expect you'll keep your games for quite a while, and stagger when you send them back, but honestly I eventually just gave up on it for being too slow. Netflix has spoiled me.
It should be noted, though, that Gamefly's used game sales are totally awesome.
That's why I like Goozex. I stick with games that drop below $25 in points and then buy them. I play until I get bored and sell them back and usually get $20. Pay $2 for the trade token and another $2 in shipping/handling so it only costs at most $5-10 per game. Or I'll get cheap games and sell them back for what I paid so it's under $5 per game as long as I want.
Sweet! Have two people who want to pick it up tonight so hopefully I can find a PS3 tomorrow
I'm still a big supporter of Gamefly, even with it's flaws.
The new game thing is avoidable 9/10 times if you have an open slot, and take everything else off your queue but the one game you want. Works for me almost EVERY time.
The shipping thing/turn-around time is because of one reason and one reason only: Netflix has an agreement with USPS that Gamefly doesn't.
Netflix gets same day notification (more often than not) of you sending a movie back, because they struck a deal early on. They also have heavily discounted shipping charges. Gamefly tried to strike the same deal ~1 year later, and USPS shot them down.
Netflix pays less than HALF what Gamefly does for shipping, AND gets priority notification of a return. Gamefly gets the shaft, and I still don't see a valid reason why.
The nearest Gamefly shipping center is in Western PA. There's no reason it should take more than 2 days to get a game, and if they were able to get the same deal that Netflix has, you'd be looking at a 2-3 day turn-around baring issue, which is dead on what I expect from Netflix.
Instead, assuming I get a game right away, my turn-around for gamefly averages 4-5 (and sometimes more...). Where my Netflix turn-around is 2-4.

GF actually now gets the same shipping rates as Netflix. That said, Netflix is a much bigger scale, and their operation has an absurd number of distribution centers, including (at least) one in Minneapolis. As a result, I get consistent one-day turnaround (i.e., mail on Monday, wait one day, receive DVD on Wednesday). With Gamefly shipping out to PA I wouldn't expect my next game for about a week.
Thinking I'm about to have my first death in my saltwater tank since getting back into it again. My fire shrimp looks like he's not doing so hot. Probably only a matter of time...
Made a new avy. RIP Boogey.

Can I toot my own horn for a moment?
I designed the software for Netflix which allows the USPS to scan the barcode which notifies the distribution center to go ahead and send your next disc.
If you want to run an experiment, take two Netflix movies and return them at the same time. On the disc sleeve, make sure the barcode is in the little window on one, and face the sleeve the other direction (no bar code) on the second. Measure the time differential. It will be at least a day.
Now, it's been there since they originally implemented that in 2005. I don't know if they switched to the bar code on the actual mailing envelope concept, but there were bigger risks involved with it being on the paper envelope instead of the disc sleeve.
People were more than likely to use a different envelope rather than a different sleeve.

I hadn't heard they actually won. That's good, yet frustrating news. As I haven't noticed ANY change in their shipping times...

Ha, I always make sure to put them in with the barcode in the slit. Glad to know it actually does something!
Sold the 360 today. Bought a new PS3. The damn thing will not work with my TV. Looks like there's some kind of HDMI "handshake" problem with certain TV's and there's no fix for it. If I'd have known that, I would have kept the damn 360 and put the money towards Xbox Live for 3 years.
Jesus Christ I hate technology. Why can't Apple just make everything?

There is a certain button combo you can press with the power button to reset that ****, I'd look into that before you do anything too crazy.
I just logged onto my Facebook and I just read the most .... interesting thing I've seen on there in a while. I'm not sure how to react to this. Pics will be up shortly. (Possibly NSFW)

Yeah, HDCP is the worst idea ever. It's one reason I won't buy movies on Blu-Ray. Yet another example of legitimate consumers getting dicked over by copy protection while pirates remain basically unaffected. I'm not even convinced it's actually meant to deter copying of movies so much as force people to buy new (Sony® 3D™!) televisions.
As for your situation, get a set of PS3 component cables, like these. It's an analog signal, so HDCP isn't an issue. For reasonable length cables there isn't really a noticeable degradation of quality, and you'll be able to output up to 1080i (not 1080p though, definitely for movies and probably games too, because Blu-Ray's licensing doesn't allow 1080p over analog).
And again, sorry you got screwed. This **** is the reason I donate to the EFF.

I love H. Jon Benjamin in pretty much any context, so I'm excited for this. Not enough to actually watch it on television at a specific time with commercials, mind you, but I'm excited for it to hit Comedy Central's website or Netflix or DVD or something.

Proceed with caution, my friend. Any girl that posts that kinda stuff as their Facebook statuses are freaks. Straight up. I mean, sure, you'll have a great time should anything happen... But she will end up coming back to haunt you. I've made that mistake once. Okay, twice. If you're confident in your abilities to tame a beast, then by all means, do it man!
