Habs finish 3rd EC
MVP - Carey Price
UFA pickup - Brooks Laich & Zenon Konopka
Flop - Gomez is bought out
Under-appreciated - Big T*ts
Role Player - Zenon Konopka

Biggest news is that Markov is re-signed and stays healthy all year as the Habs battle for the Stanley Cup on the back of a PP that runs at 30%.

Just a question.

But why does everyone seem to think we are going to get Laich?

Why would he sign here? If we can't afford Wisniewski, we surely can't afford Laich.

Plus, do you really think Laich is Gauthier's type of player? He is too big and too strong to fit in our system.

please

people think he will sign here because we need a guy like him in the line up and Laich will make between 3,5 and 4millions ,Wiz between 4,5 and 5,5 millions

I don't disagree that we need a player like him in the lineup. We have needed a player like him for the past 10 years. Who was our last power-forward....Jean Beliveau?

We have had a serious need for this type of players the last 10 years, and it has never been addressed. What makes the summer of 2011 so different?

Martin/Gauthier are more likely to put Pyatt on the top line...

I see it in another way.

If you look at the Canadiens puzzle a player like Laich is a missing piece.
Laich is team player, a leader , a warrior and he want to win . Exactly the type of player Gauthier search for this team.

and he can play center and pass the puck. I don't expect the manadgement to be patient with Gomez if he play like last year.

I really hope your right.

A player like Laich would totally transform our team, and we would have two big bodies on each top line (Pacioretty/Laich).

However, I just don't want to see you get your hopes up to see Laich go somewhere else. I don't see MTL signing anyone significant unfortunately.

I hope I am wrong.

If the Jagr rumor are true and Gauthier didn't want to sign him you can be sure that a player like Laich is his first target.

and let's not forget about Kostitsyn and Eller when we talk about big guys with talent. I dream about a Pacioretty-Eller-Kostitsyn line they are big they can score and they are gritty.

I won't lie I think we can have the best team in years next season

I agree. I like where this team is going...with a couple savvy moves.

In an IDEAL scneario..we retain both Wisniewski and Markov while getting rid of Spacek, and we acquire Laich and Konopka (or a type of player like that).

a bit early to do this since as of today we only have 3 NHL dmen signed to contracts... how this summer (draft/ufagency/re-signing RFA) plays out will have a huge impact on how next season will go.

but as of today, here's my shot in the dark:

Where will we finish? 6-10, again, depending on injuries/young players contributions/vet consistency.

Team MVP? Price

Biggest FA pick up? Jagr

Biggest flop? Cammalleri (healthy season- 70+games, 25g/60pts)

Underappreciated player? Plekanec (despite not being a ppg player, overall contributions make him more valuable than people give him credit for)

Best role player? White (if he has a good summer of training, I can see him earning more ice time and giving us the disruptive bottom-6 precense we've lacked in recent years).

Markov will be the best role player by far. Playing the role of guy who gets injured within max 10 games and is out for the season.
