Yea it is gone. It's for the best Hemsky is a bogus rumor and oil fans are irrational in what they think they are going to get for him. If they move him(to any team) it will be for a 2nd and a prospect or a late first. One year of him when he is coming off injury is not worth the 8th.

There's something going on up there. Howson has been on Edmonton radio every week lately.

Is he ever interviewed on Columbus radio?

No you're not. I'm thinking this Bob Stauffer performs some unnatural acts. I shudder to think what he's doing to promote RNH.

Doesn't his family still live up there. I thought his wife was a lawyer up there or something.

Even if something is going on(and i hope there) it doesnt make sense that it is Hemsky.

He doesn't fill a need.
The 8th is worth more than his current value
Edmonton would be stupid to trade him with his current value
He would be worth a lot more at the trade deadline when the Oilers are not in the playoff picture again.(like us)

It doesn't though nothing will likely happen before next Friday.

Yes I believe 100% a trade will go down before next season. I believe at least 3 trades at the NHL level will go down for the Cbj.

At least one at the draft. I will be surprised if we do not trade the 8th. I have no inside knowledge or have any idea what Scotty is thinking. All I know is something has to be done.

I believed 100% that something would have been done last season about the defense. I thought there was no way Howson could go all season with that defense. But Howson took the last bit of faith that I had in him away. I'm not saying he won't make a trade (or two or possibly three), but I no longer believe that Howson will do something just because it seems obvious that he needs to.

I don't think Hemsky fits what you guys need the most but Howson has always loved him. If ownership insists on making the playoffs, then anything is possible.

The big thing holding back Howson is the internal cap. If the oilers ate Commodore's and Huselius' salary, then Howson has a lot of money to go after ufa. If a deal is made on draft day, I am certain a lot of salary is going to the oilers.

I also think Gagner may be traded instead of Hemsky. Gagner is a smallish centre and we will be drafting RNH who is also smallish.

Gagner + Gilbert for Commodore, Huselius + ?? could be the deal.

as stated prior to me, depends on the + but the freed up 7m or so would be nice and we could then flip gagner and something or brass and something to get more assets....and plenty of room to sign 3 "impact" players

I didn't think it was 100% something had to be done last year. We had a coaching change. I understood why he thought the defense might have been good enough for the playoffs. It was basically the same defense as the playoff year.

This year something 100% has to be done.

This is precisely what I was saying at the time.

Also note that at the time, Commodore had one year of awesome and one year of overwhelming suck, and many of us had reason to believe that he'd learned from the overwhelming suck. We know better now.

That thought may have been valid over last off season. Fans can be forgiven for thinking that way. GM's who make millions to make these decisions are not. Into the season it became clear that the defense wasn't going to fly. Howson had to know early on, certainly by December. But patience is his virtue to put it nicely.

Sorry for hi-jacking this thread...as for the subject at hand... I see Hemsky>8th overall. But Defense>Hemsky and top line center>Hemsky. I'd only go after Hemsky if there really is nothing else to be done with the pick. Preferably I'd see what I could add to the 2nd round pick to bring in Hemsky if the Oilers would listen. Then I'd bind him in bubble wrap.

I have not read the thread but if I had I would still say: DON'T do it!

All connections? Does that include everyone who played with them in the 80s?

Maybe he thought Taylor Hall

Seriously I do not see any sense in this trade. Really. Hemský is an always injured winger. Smid is an average d-man we have enough similar. And 19th is too high. So, no.

Considering some of Hemsky's best games have come against CBus I would think you guys what he's capable of. The guy is a helluva player. The only question, and it's a very legitimate one, is his inability to stay healthy.

Oh I don't know... Other things come into mind sometimes. Consistency, heart.... Things that are already somewhat rare at times in C-Bus land. I can find you some nice highlight reel goals from Zherdev. Do you want him?
