Well, to put things even more into perspective...

Shelley finished 7th on our team in hits behind Powe, Hartnell, Giroux, Nodl, vanRiemsdyk, and Richards.

(By the way, all these stats have been among forwards. I haven't been counting defensemen. So when I say "on our team" I mean only forwards.)

Sestito had 31 hits in 9 games...or 282 in 82 games...

Which would've easily led our forwards in hits. In fact it would've been top 5 in the league among forwards.

(NOTE: It is harder to register a hit in Philly than other places so Sestito may not have hit that mark had he played in Philadelphia.)

He might also have a harder time hitting NHL players.

Those are Sestito's NHL numbers...31 hits in 9 games.

Haha it really is! That and he's always in the right spot for the most part (thus a good PKer).

If you can skate, and be in the right spot, you'll almost always find a job.

I'm a Powe fan.

Powe! He got ya! He caught you with your funk down!

I don't know why I thought those were AHL numbers. I have no explanation.

I like Powe too but if their two goals were goaltending and adding size then they can't go into the season with Nodl and Wellwood replacing Leino and Versteeg.

Agreed. Powe has been really good for us the last couple of years. Unless his salary demands suddenly has become ridiculous, he stays. I'm not bored enough to look this up, but I believe he got significantly better on face-offs as the last season progressed as well and in the end filled in for Betts quite frequently, so maybe the solid face-off guy for the fourth line already is on the team.

Oh, and please, oh god please, no Jarkko Ruutu on our team. I've had a hard time cheering for Carcillo due to his constant head-snaps and flailing arms. Ruutu is a lot worse. I'd hate to get him on board. He is also past his prime I believe, he hasn't been nearly as effective in his role the last few years.

My only issue with Powe is the Flyers' belief that he can fill in on the top 9. It's not really Powe's fault, but if we simply use him as a 4th liner and PKer, then lock him up because he will never approach the 1 million dollar number. I see him as a great compliment to Betts (as Sjostrom was with the Rangers) and will forever be a 6-800k cap hit. If he ever asks for more then show him the door.

I know the thread isn't about Betts - but try starting a positive sentance about him that doesn't have the words was, if or shoulder.

I agree on all your points (except I want to keep Powe). You're fine with the belief that Powe is a dime-a-dozen player, but we have players here that bring different things to the table. Acknowledge that they are different instead of putting them all together in one bundle because it's easy.
I don't do it because it's easy. They are different but they are both such marginal players at this point that it makes very little difference.

Powe is a heat seeking missile that is a solid PKer.

Nodl is less physical also a good PKer but with slightly more offense.

I like Powe but I think his skill set is more easily replaced.

I think both Powe and Nodl have a place on this team, especially if we go for two top lines instead of three, which is what I'm hoping for

Absolutely. You need solid guys who can hit to fill out your bottom lines. If they have good hands like Nodl, all the better.

We need to add some size on the wings, keep these two, deal Carcillo for a pick and let Leino walk (unless he can be signed after the goalie situation is settled and depending who goes).

Exactly my point. He can't compete in the circle anymore. Will his shoulder last another NHL season?

I can't look up the stats cause I'm on my phone. But, I thought betts was better this season on faceoff than towards the end of last season.

With that, I wouldn't be surpised to see him walk after his contract is up.

True, but at least he usually runs into something before he falls down, hartnell just falls down.

Blair Betts FO% for this year was 50.3% and last year it was 50.9% He most likely will be out of here after his contract expires but he has done well in the faceoff circle. Also he didn't take draws this postseason for the most part becuase he needed surgery on his finger if i remember correctly

if you're seeing that # at capgeek.com, that was this past season, not what he re-signed for

Can Testwuide play at all? He's another guy with size that might be able to fit in on the 4th or 3rd lines. Well, if he can play.
