Sorry, there's no way O'Donnell should get anything above $1 mil.

I don't disagree. I just feel like we're going to get him to take a slight paycut but still overpay a little.

Very little cap space but they could move someone like Versteeg at the deadline for a dman if Wellwood or one of the other rookies steps up.

Yeah, we might have a winner. I don't expect to see a lot of roster shakeup besides Carle and Leino departing.

edit: We also just aren't getting Laich or Cole for the prices needed to fit them and Bryz into the roster.

you think larose only gets 2MM?

What would you say the odds are of getting Gagne for 2M cap hit? Maybe if they offer him 6M for 3 yrs (3 - 2 -1) he'll take the security of a longer term. I don't think TB goes more then 2 yrs.

How about giving steve montador a shot? he wasn't great in buffalo recently, but i think he could be very reliable in a 3rd pairing role, where he doesn't exactly have the responsibility that he had in buffalo.

also, the more i think about it, the more i want to give kris versteeg another shot. he didnt play very well down the stretch and in the playoffs, but i think there's something to be said about moving around that much and playing with a abdominal injury. maybe if given a fresh start from training camp he can really be good for us. we sometimes forget that he's also pretty serviceable on the PK.

I think Bob is moved and Boucher resigned ($900). Also, Shelley will not be moved. Wellwood or Holmstom will be the 13th forward.

Versteeg - Richards - Sestito

There should be a handful of guys for the 5/6 dman available around $1M - $1.3M.
OD, MARA, JURCINA.

If OD doesn't resign I think Jurcina would be a good 5/6. He is big, physical stay at home d man. Not very good with the puck.

i disagree.

Tom Sestito was just resigned, presumably to a 1 way contract. This move makes shelley expendable, and leaves the clubs intentions pretty clear.

i will be surprised if jody shelley isnt waived before the end of training camp, maybe even before then.

also, i want paul mara as far away from an orange and black sweater as humanly possible.

That could be a good line right there. You really think they would move Bob? I know he does have a high contract. What could they get for him? You're right, Shelley will probably be on this team and I think he should be. At least for the regular season. Jurcina would be an interesting fit. I like OD a lot, but Lavy's system has to be one of the worst that he fits in. The constant pinching is terrible for him.

If we can sign Emery as a back up, he may come cheaper than Bob. Bob can play in the AHL. That way we can have about another 1mil in space to sign a vet W or D. If not we have what I have below...

All I keep hearing is that to send Bob down, he needs to be put up on waiver wire. Which means someone can pick him up for nothing basically, and I don't want that. So many teams would jump on it.

In the offseason I'm not sure that would matter - doing it then I mean.

There is no such thing as regular Waivers in the off season.

I hope you're right but I think they want Sestito to play a regular shift and not just be a goon. He has the size but he would have a long season if he has to fight true enforcers all season. He is similar to Eager. They look like HWs but they really aren't that good of fighters.

I doubt they can move his salary and Homer isn't the type of guy that stashes respected vets in the AHL. He probably has hives from having to keep Walker in the AHL.

Not necessarily.

Everyday we are under the cap we are "banking" that cap space which can allow for us to add a pro-rated contract (whether that is through a call-up, or by acquiring somebody). Something that is often forgotten when looking at the yearly numbers. That said, if we are actually utilizing LTIR (with Lappy), then we aren't banking anything at all. Additionally, we could choose to utilize that LTIR for the sole purpose of making a callup if needed.

That and most people's lineups tend to have a 13th forward and 7th d-man, for the purpose of plugging them in should there be an injury. If there is a more substantial injury, chances are we could place that player on LTIR, if we felt it necessary, and then make a subsequent roster move.

Long story short, I think carrying a full million in wiggle room is too much. That's why we have the 13th forward and 7th D.

Welcome to the boards btw. Glad to see a new poster who seems to like to contribute as much as you.

Honestly, I'm seeing a lot of Winchester, and I don't think he'd be a good fit. He was very inconsistent in his stretch with us.

I'm fairly certain we can't, regardless of waivers or not. I believe during the offseason there is no AHL vs NHL. You can't send someone down to the AHL during the offseason. (This is part of the reason why there is the 10% overage allowance.) It would be during or at the conclusion of training camp, once waivers are applicable.

Perhaps someone else can chime in as well.

I don't see why they would completely scramble the first 3 lines. Giroux is less effective at wing imho. Versteeg should not be playing center.

Correct. All one-way contracts count towards the cap in the offseason. Once the season starts, players with two-way contracts that are not waiver-eligible and players with AHL only contracts may be sent to the AHL, while players with one-way contracts and waiver-eligible players with two-way contracts (Bob) must pass through waivers.
