I think that the Canadiens don't have to go out and create a 4th line of an average height of 6'4" and 220lbs. It's not needed and from Pierre Gauthier's stand point I dont think he is gonna pull something like that off. For all those fans that say they want big time fighters and big grinders and just bigger and stronger....well you may have watched to much of the Bruins this year.
The Montreal Canadiens just need a little more depth in their bottom 6, adding one tough player that CAN play hockey not just fight and a good face off man, Solid defense like they've had for the past 5 years,an excellent year from Gomez and a consistent year from AK and Cammy.

I agree! Like I said in another thread, we need big, fairly speedy top 6 forwards (already have one in Patches) who can throw good clean hits. I really hope that teams aren't going to be following the big, bad Bruins formula. IMO that would make for a really boring, despicable NHL.

totally disagree, the bruins had one in Thornton and Chicago had one last year in Eager. You need some protection to keep your players heatly and keep the other team honest, it's pretty much proven fact at this point
The "New" NHL has laid down the rules. If you want to win a Stanley Cup, it is mandatory that you break the vertebras of two players from two different Cup contending teams. And that is the minimum.
In all seriousness, I dont know if it was simply because Campbell's Bruins were in the Finals, but watching a Game 7 with penalties being committed every shift without being called by the refs does not ever bode well for success for the Canadiens with the team that we have now.
PG needs to toughen this team up with a strong 4th line or get steamrolled by teams whose GMs watched last night and will get the tough guys that are needed.
Its a damn shame that the sport of professional hockey has decided to take the low road------Boston Bruins thuggery style.
Need guys that are tough as nails and hustle to no end. Don't care much about size, but I find it hard to believe you'd get a line of 5'5 players with those 2 criteria.
Konopka can't play hockey, he is horrible defensively and offensively. After the faceoff, if he doesn't fight, he is lost on the ice. He was taking faceoff during the last season but players like Matt Martin were always jumping on the ice right after. I have no problem if the Habs sign Konopka as 13th foward because he can fight, but I don't want this player as faceoff specialist with 1 minute left in an important game. I'd rather give the big faceoffs to David Desharnais (if Tomas Plekanec can't).

honestly a 4th line of 3 ryan whites and id be happy, just need guys with heart, hustle and balls
While I'd agree that the Habs don't need to be restricted to looking for grinder/size, I don't think you can rule it out either. Teams win the cup by their make-up and teams have won it with elite goaltending, offence, toughness, etc..., etc...
As long as that elite quality is one that gives you advantage enough to win-out, it doesn't matter what it is. We need some guys who can supplement depth scoring and contribute to our d-system. I think it'd be a luxury to have a door-man for Subban, Emelin, Pacioretty, Desharnais, and most especially Carey Price. That's a nice group (although I'm reaching on Emelin). Conventional wisdome is to protect guys like that and limit the fights.

I agree. A guy like Torres on the 3rd line would be great. Even though I'm not a big fan of his play when he is on another team, I'd love to have him on my side. A Torres-Eller-Kostitsyn as a 3rd line would be pretty nice...3 big guys, 2 that can hit and play hockey. Then you can have Darche - Halpern - Moen as a fourth line that can play decent minutes, very reliable defensively and can provide some nice cycling in the offensive zone. I dont feel we need goons but we need players that can provide some toughness and physical presence that small players cant.
If Conboy ever manages to understand what he has to do to bring it to the next level, we'd have one crazy guy out there, not a very good fighter, but willing, and will hit everything that moves, borderline dangerous, but I don't care... I don't know if it's possible though...

Konopka averaged over 10 minutes a game, averaged over 50% in the face-off circle, finished with 110 hits and 307 PIM. Sure he has his flaws, but he adds a much needed element to the Habs bottom 6; toughness. There's a reason he was only one of two players that played all 82 games last year.

I was about to post the same thing only I was going to say 6'4",220lbs centerman.
Eller is 6"2 198lbs, and has the potential to become our top 6 centerman in 1 or 2 years, and at this time he'll weight arround 210lbs. So we need to be patient.

Are people only excited with him because of that one hit in college hockey that got him kicked out of the NCAA??
I don't think we need a goon but I'd love to have a guy like Brad Winchester who can possibly chip in 10 goals, plays physical and fights instead of a guy like Pyatt on our fourth line.
