Crazy draft day moves

I know we have some draft threads out there, but this one is for crazy stuff Fletch might or might not do. It is inspired by one of the Mock Draft threads, Barbadian's 7 round mock, here.

The fine gentleman who ran the Wild in this draft gave Pittsburgh Clutterbuck and Latendresse for F Nikita Filatov, D Matt Niskanen, D Dustin Jeffrey, 6th 2011 (177th overall).

The #10 was then swapped to the Oil for 19 and Cogliano.

Not that I would do either of those, unless under the threat of violence to my loved ones, but it certainly is bold and crazy.

This is neither bold nor crazy, but i'd like to see the Wild swap Zanon for a 3rd, then package a 3rd and 4th for a 2nd, like last year.

CF certainly has shown to have the balls to do some maneuvering through trades.

We just have to make sure they are good trades and not end with drafting Tyler Biggs (really? with Jenner, Phillips, and Miller still there?) or end up with the Barker-Leddy fiasco...

Props to Pittsburgh to flipping Filatov like a house.

Bold...Wild trade up and grab one of Couturier, Landeskog, Huberdeau, or Strome.

Its crazy that they will do it without trading any of last years big 4

I thought this would be long forgotten...

C'mon guys, it's a mock draft game, no reason to take it too seriously, and I explained all those moves that I did.

Jeffrey is a left wing, not a defenseman. Filatov is a big risk, but what if he pans out eventually? He has huge offensive potential, which doesn't actually exist in the current Wild roster.

Biggs' stocks were higher when I drafted him, but I actually would've wanted to trade down again, because there weren't any guys that I would've really wanted.

I've done a lot of these in the past. They're fun to do. Outside of the big names on the Wild, nobody is really interested in the rest. And even for those bigger names, you can never really return anything all that great. It is sort of fun to try to trade EVERYONE, though. Regardless of what you get in return.

As for the actual draft, I expect it to be fairly ho-hum. Nobody on roster moved, the only trading I see is moving up and down in whatever round.

I do actually. He's signed to a reasonable contract and has shown to be a very steady and reliable defenseman.

Would someone trade Zanon for 3rd?

And the 10th for 19th and Cogliano trade; draft picks are overrated, especially in this draft, where players from around 10th aren't really much better than the ones from late 1st-early 2nd round, so I'm only trading down for nine spots and I'll get a possible 40-50 point forward in addition.
Think about it this way; you wouldn't trade:

Cheap forward with potential, last year in NHL: 82, 11+24=35 (=Cogliano)
Previously 5th ranked NA skater (=Biggs)

for

4th ranked Euro skater (=Armia)?

Fair enough.

But my biggest question isn't the trades, it was the Biggs selection. With the absence of offensive talent and top six or top four d-men talent, why was your final decision Tyler Biggs?

Well, I have to admit that it wasn't my favorite pick either, but as I had traded away some big, gritty players I felt that I'd need a bigger winger. Biggs has got some offensive talent, too, so it's not like he's a pure grinder. And about the guys you mentioned (Miller, Phillips, Jenner), I just wanted to pick a winger, and all of those guys are centers.

Clutterbuck is one of the few guys someone ever want to trade in those mock draft games. Other one is Koivu.

Which one would you trade if you should decide?

I don't know if this is crazy enough or not but I would propose the Wild trade a player to the Islanders (See other thread) for their 5th. So now the Wild have the #5 & #10 pick. Take the #5 pick & #10 pick and package with one of our AHL goalie prospects and then trade the 2 number 1 picks & goalie prospect to Edmonton for their #1 overall pick (#1 pick in the draft)

that or plan B would be trade Colorado for their #1 (2nd overall)

Wild get a top 3 draft pick, lose an overpaid player & make a big splash by #1 overall at home (or #2 overall)

Win, Win ,Win?
