He actually reminds me of Pedro Cerrano... absolutely mashes the heater, but looks lost on good curves.

One of those homers yesterday was on a hanging slider. It was hanging, so it wasn't a good slider, but it's progress. It seems like they've been jamming him like crazy and lately he's been doing something to get better contact on those inside pitches. I dunno, maybe he's opened up his stance the way Miggy did earlier this year when they were doing the same thing to him.

it's sort of amazing that even in a game where he's responsible for our only run, I'm still left thinking, "Don Kelly sucks."

Kelly is actually hitting a hell of a lot better than Inge, and he doesn't throw everything into Cabrera's feet. That being said, he still can't hit. A .660 OPS has no business in the top 7 of your batting order, unless maybe the guy steals 100 bags a season.

I'm ok with them playing Kelly right now but there's no excuse for batting him 2nd over and over again. If you must play him, he's an 8/9 hitter.

It's amazing, this team is on a tear and creeping up on the Indians in spite of Leyland's continued attempts to lose every single game via ridiculous lineups.

He is swinging a better bat (which is just sad), but how many runs did he cost the Tigers with that throw tonight? I wouldn't mind Kelly so much if he was played like the last guy on the roster that he is, but he shouldn't be batting second and he shouldn't be playing this much. At this point, I'd be running Worth out there more often just to give him a look. Of the guys we have up right now, he's the only one we don't have a good idea of what he'll do.

Yeah, Brady Hoke has just had a ton of luck even before coaching a game. Tressel Gone! Pryor Gone! I don't know if he can coach but I love the luck that he is bringing.

You also have to love the amount of recruits he's bringing in. For a program that is in a turn around he sure is getting recruits to be interested. Back to Big Ten dominance.

Guess I'll put this in here, since Rick Carlisle used to be the Pistons coach (d'oh!!!).....it doesn't warrant its own thread.

Man, how crushed were the ABC broadcast team when Dallas won the title tonight? They sound like someone ran over all of their puppies. Am I watching a wake, or a team winning the NBA championship?

Just pathetic coverage.

Stuart Scott: "Dirk, I got no questions for you because we all hoped you guys would lose. How does it feel to win despite not being LeBron, the greatest player who ever lived, and knowing that 20 years from now we'll all pretend like the Heat really did win this series?"

So glad the Heat lost. Soooooo glad. Colin Cowherd is going to have a big sourpuss on for months. Awesome.

Verlander has not lost since April 27, and is 5-0 with a 2.14 ERA his last seven starts overall. He's allowed three runs and struck out 20 in 23 2/3 innings to win his last three outings, including Thursday when he yielded a run and struck out 10 in eight innings of a 4-1 win over Seattle.
Verlander's been on a big roll and takes the mound tonight with a chance of taking over 1st in the central. Time to even the season series.

Verlander had a no-no going into the 8th. He's pitching a great game.

At least the hit he allowed wasn't a cheapy...Cabrera turned around a high fastball and hit it very hard into center. Regardless, it's another masterpiece...third CG of the season (most in the AL along with James Shields) and ties Mad Max and Jake Arrieta for 2nd in the AL with 8. It's great to see them back in first place in the Central.

Actually, Shields just completed a 4-0 complete game shutout as well, so he's back in the lead with 4, heh. But yeah, another great game by JV and a solid win to take over 1st place. Still gotta win the series though, two big games coming up yet.

Should have never lost his job. Still would have won in '03, and the team would have been built a hell of a lot better.

This next coaching hire will make or break Dumars and from the names being thrown out there (seriously, when Isiah Thomas is the most qualified candidate...), he's failed already.

Was a good Tigers game to go to. However, once you get a couple beers or alcohol in me I pay no attention to the game. My bf works up in the Tigers club so once I was up there and drinking for free, no clue what went on, lol. Had a good time tho

I never really drink at Wings games. Hockey is more important to me, lol.

Well, I love baseball, but the game is so damn slow compared to hockey that you can get pretty well loaded and still follow the game.

I watched Indians vs. Yankees yesterday on ESPN America. I want those 2 hours of my life back please. How can someone sit through this, seriously? I've played baseball and it was really fun, but I watch my first full game of MLB and it's an absolute snorefest. Hockey is the only sport that is non-stop action and even the NJ trapallooza beats baseball or american football.

Not me, I tend to start socializing more than watching the game, especially when I am not sitting in seats.

It's not for everybody I do wonder how you watched the Indians vs. the Yankees yesterday when the Indians played the Tigers and the Yankees played the Rangers though

They played on Monday, I watched the game the next morning here in Europe.

I understand that there can be some "exciting" moments, but they are so rare to start with and short lived. I never thought I would enjoy Test match cricket more than this. Twenty20 definitely beats baseball though.

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but it appears that Michigan and Ohio State are in the process of finishing plans to play an outdoor game at Progressive Field.

Terrible idea for Ohio. There are not enough O$U fans to come near to filling that place. In fact, it will likely be more Michigan fans in the stands. Unless, they do something brilliant like pair the match with a Det-Cbus NHL game. Now that would be phenomenal.

That would be exceptionally awesome. You could even stretch it into a two-day event with various events. One could even argue this year would be a perfect year for this sort of setup. Play OSU vs. Michigan on Saturday, 31 December 2011, then CBJ vs. DET on Sunday, 1 January 2012.

Tigers win the series and regain first place...Scherzer improves to 9-2!

They're saying on the Tigers site that Inge is going to have a rehab stint. They've done well without him...kinda like with Magglio. I don't think they should just give him his job back because it's not like he was playing at an All-Star level when he went down with mono. Inge is the Draper of the Tigers...gritty and a defensive specialist and had only one quality offensive year but this franchise it too loyal to him. Kelly and Worth have been decent at third...why should they throw him back in with his .211 average? Maybe give him a couple games to get back in the groove but sit his ass if he's not performing. They're finally giving young players a chance to play and they've done quite well.

Inge needs to have been playing at an All-Star level in order to deserve his job back? He only had one quality offensive season? What? I don't get the Inge hate. He's more like Filppula than Draper to me. A good player who people think should be an All-Star for some reason.

Worth is a middle infielder and a good defensive sub for those positions. He's not much more and doesn't really know what he's doing at third base though.

Kelly is 31, not really a "young player." Moreover, I haven't seen anything from him to indicate he should keep the starting 3B job over Inge. For all of Inge's faults at the plate, Kelly has more. And he's nowhere near the fielder or baserunner. Leyland has a love affair with him because he loves scrappy, hard-working, marginal players with little talent. But that's the problem with Kelly, all he is is a scrappy, hard-working, marginal player with little talent.

The sooner Inge is back and Kelly is back on the bench, the better.

Is this a bad time to point out someone playing third for the Athletics and batting .417/.500/.583 since being called up from the minors?
