No, its over a million so its just the current salary for one year. Even if he isn't in their plans I don't see them throwing away an asset for nothing. I mean, if their is one thing I've disliked about the Habs management is sub-optimal asset management but they would try to get something. Even if its just bringing him back to waive him if he doesn't have a good camp.

Maybe all those unhappy season endings will teach him to backcheck, because if he starts doing that, he'd be a valuable third liner.

In fairness to BP, he only played a total of 18:36 against Boston during this year's playoffs (7:18 in Game 1, 7:57 in Game 2 and 3:21 in Game 3, after which he was not in the lineup).

The +10% thing is supposed to be for contracts below 1 million I think, so no. I believe they just have to offer him same amount for 1 year and that's it. Don't see why they wouldn't do it. Between letting him go, losing him to waivers and trading him for "future considerations" I don't see the difference.

They could also trade him at the draft I suppose.

I read Eric Engels article on Pouliot.. I seriously think he short sighted his value. At the very least... He should be brought back to be traded...

I think Benoit Pouliot is done like dinner in Montreal!

Top three lines next season:

Cammalleri - Plekanec - UFA
Pacioretty - Gomez - Gionta
Kostitsyn - Eller - UFA

Despite playing less than 10 minutes a game and getting no pp time Pouliot still had more points than Torres...

Look Pouliot has his faults, but the only way he won't be in camp is if he's traded. There's no real need to negotiate with him beyond qualifying him right now. He's likely to accept his QO at this point anyway. For a young 30-point player that MIGHT be able to get hot and fit into the top 6 in case of injuries, $1M + is a reasonable price.
Maybe instead of paying Pouliot 1.5 mil we can sign a decent UFA by spending a bit more cash and get a much better player, a guy that plays all 200 feet of ice and shows up after March 1st.

I for one completely agree with the original article and I'll consider it a damnable failure of coaching if Pouliot is let go.

Whowever we pick up off the UFA market is likely to do less well than Grabovski did in Toronto (29 goals and 29 assists), D'Agostini did in St-Louis (21 goals and 25 assists), than Sergei Kostitsyn did in Nashville (23 goals and 27 assists), or then Pouliot will do wherever he goes.

He had 13 goals and 17 assists this season, compare that to Scott Gomez, who had 7 goals and 31 assists with nearly twice the ES ice time and probably 3 to 5 times the PP ice time. Martin has a different standard for young players, it's incompetent of him, and it's bad for the long-term health of the team.

What do you mean by "done"? Tendered and then traded or dumped? To not qualify him at this point would be terrible asset management... though Gauthier IS a virtuoso at getting nothing for something.

Gainey gave up Francois Beauchemin and Ron Hainsey for nothing onto the waiver wire.

Philippe Lecavalier, one of the assistant to Kent Hughes, the agent Benoit Pouliot, held talks with Pierre Gauthier Monday. The result of this conversation: Benoit Pouliot will not be back in Montreal!

What we suspected is now confirmed, therefore, Pouliot played his last game in blue uniforms, white and red.

It is clear that his lack of trust and involvement will be right in his rule Montreal. Say it is not the type of players the most appreciated by Jacques Martin ...

What happens there with the # 57? Will it exchanged? Does it become just an unrestricted free agent? If Pierre Gauthier can get something in return for his services, he will. Otherwise, he simply let go ...

Shame to waste that much raw talent ...

Wow. I've never seen that site before, so I dunno how much we should trust it. I've thought for a while that PG would trade pouliot for a pick or package him at the draft. Guess that confirms it.

I would think we SHOULD be able to get a 4th or 5th rounder, maybe more in return, even with a 1.35 or so qualifying offer. I'm sure he'd fit with a team like Phoenix, Florida or another small market, looking for a potentially cheap top 6 guy.

I'd package him and our first 4th rounder for a mid 2nd and draft Kucherov.

I don't think Benny got a proper chance with steady quality linemates and if he goes elsewhere expect him to do better as most every asset we squander seems to. But what do I know.

yeah well, they are different players, different management, different coaching and a whole new mentality in Tampa. To be honest, he can stay or he can go as far as i care, I can just see that being a team that would take a chance on him, and in that enviroment i think he could potentially do well.

What was your point again?

Alex Tanguay had 22 goals and 47 assists for 69 points in 79 games this year.

Those stats are vastly superior to every single Habs forward this year.

of course he had 37 points in 80 games with the Lightning last season.
