Yeah, silly rules in baseball. The official scorer has discretion in awarding wins, obvious example being Parnell tonight. Why can't the official scorer credit the starter with a win?

yeah makes no sense that the starter has to go 5 and a reliever can throw 1 pitch and get the W. should be up to official scorer.

I'm now Dr. Capitain Midnight! - And I met the METS!

Yup, I just graduated medical school and am now and Internal Medicine Resident.

Anyway, I have a cool little story. The Mets are my favorite team and they were in Pittsburgh this past weekend. I know where they stay every time they come to town so I took my father-in-law to PGH and we stayed in the same hotel. Sunday night, after the day game which the Mets won 7-0, I was having dinner with a friend of mine at the bar of the hotel restaurant. In walks the Mets' manager, Terry Collins. I turn to him and say, "I just want to thank you for what are doing. The Mets are actually fun to watch now!" He says thank you and sits two seats to my right at the bar.

Then in comes Eddie Coleman, the radio beat guy for WFAN. This is my favorite radio station of all time and I go, "Eddie C, I remember calling you when I was younger, what an honor to meet you." He says, "I'm glad I left a good impression on you." He sits to the right of Collins. They go on to tell us story after story.

Then in comes Dan Warthen, the Mets' pitching coach. He sits right next to me, so it is the five of us sitting in a row at the bar eating dinner, watching the Mavs win, and just talking baseball, Japan (where TC managed for two years), and random stuff.

I have to tell you, Warthen is one of the funnier people I have meet. Hysterical. These guys were so nice.

Jump to the next day, we are going to the gym and I run into Sandy Alderson and we share an elevator together. I said the same thing to him as I said to TC and then he asked what I do. He said, "Congratulations and good luck on your career. And thank you for your kind words." Nice guy.

I see TC in the lobby and say hi and introduce my father-in-law to him. He wishes me good luck in my career and said it was a real pleasure.

Finally, at the night game on Monday. I am hanging by the Mets' bullpen and Warthen sees me and yells, "Hey Doc, how are you?" I reply, "Great thanks, I hope my office has a view like yours does! Good luck!" He laughs and wishes me the same.

What a weekend!

That is AWESOME! Great story...that Mets team is doing exceptionally well for all of the injuries and off-field drama they have faced this (and pretty much every) year...

Warthen's a great guy. Had the chance to meet him in Philadelphia last year and he was talking to me even though Pelfrey was throwing a bullpen.

Manuel wasn't the greatest guy in the world, even though he kept a great sense of humor. Terrible manager too. Collins has done an excellent job thus far.

Is there anyone as important to their team as Reyes is to the Mets? I can't fathom that.

Closest would be Pujols, but honestly no. Mets go as Reyes goes. Wish we could keep him.

That was Jose Reyes' 100th hit, the fastest in franchise history to that total in a season.

Its not that we dont want him. But I honestly believe this team will not be spending like they have in the past. My opinion is we brought in Alderson (who was a Billy Beane guy) to put together the best team he can without the big salaries. Wilpon is in a mess, and spending big on FA's doesnt seem like something we will be doing in the future.

Reyes seems like the perfect guy to spend the money on though. If you take Reyes off of the team this year I don't even know where we are.

I'll be very upset if Reyes leaves after my first year of seriously following baseball.

I agree, when healthy, Reyes is one of the best players in baseball. But Wilpon is in debt up to his neck, and a billion dollar lawsuit to go with it. I don't see us signing him, I see him getting traded at the deadline.

Well, the Mets could sign Jose to a deal averaging $17MM per, and still cut huge money from the payroll. It's not as if he's a rookie making two million--the dude is making $11MM this year.

Just losing the salaries of Castillo, Perez and K-Rod will be huge...like $30MM off the books huge. Beltran is another $17MM off the payroll. Seriously, $47 million dollars off the books just from expiring contracts. The Mets aren't suddenly going to become a team with an $80MM payroll overnight--I'd be really surprised if the payroll if anything less than $110MM next year.

As a Yankee fan who is lucky enough not to see Chipper Jones hit my favorite team around for more than a decade, I've got to say he is one of my all time favorites.

I see what your saying, and it is a good point, maybe its just me being pessimistic. But from articles I've read on Mets and Wilpon, its what I am lead to believe. I hope to god I am wrong and we keep Reyes, and then extend Wright after '12, but I still think we trade him at deadline.

Dickey just doesn't have it tonight. His records going to look horrendous even though a team that's not the Mets should've gotten him wins in his last 2 starts.
