Stampeders trade up (with the Lions) to the 3rd overall pick and select Anthony Parker from the U of C Dinos. Lovin' it.

A great draft by the Stampeders today, although I was very sutrprised that there were no OLinemen taken. Still, I'm happy with what the Stampeders did today.

To re-cap:

Round 1, 3rd pick: WR Anthony Parker, U. of Calgary

Round 2, 9th pick: DL Junior Turner, Bishop's

Trade: Stampeders trade the 14th overall selection to Edmonton in exchange for the rights to non-import DL Brian Bulcke of Stanford.

Round 4, 26th pick: DL Akwasi Antwi, Mount Allison

Round 4, 29th pick: QB Brad Sinopoli, Ottawa

Round 5, 34th pick: RB Matt Walter, U. of Calgary

Round 6, 45th pick: TE Jared Manchulenko, Concordia

Also, as per Duane Forde's twitter - the Stampeders have signed 2010 3rd rounder J'Michael Deane, and he'll be coming to TC this year.

This is too bad, but not surprising. Labinjo has pretty much been in Huff's dog house every since the Stamps won the Grey Cup. It seems like after that dominant game he had that he just became totally complacent and physically let himself go. Again its too bad because of his potential, but Huff will not tolerate anyone not pulling their weight. I agree with the move.

Sad to hear Lumsden retire like that. It would have been exciting to see him at top form, healthy. All the best to him on bobsledding though.

As for the draft, some very exciting picks, namely the move for Anthony Parker. Looking forward in a season or two when the youth pick up the pro game.

It had to happen. If he wants to make it as a driver he can't afford to miss anymore time because of injury. It would be one thing if he had a better history of durability, other bobsledders play physical sports (Lyndon Rush and Heather Moyes both play rugby) but don't have the same injury problems.

Tiger-Cats were paying a lot of money for DeAngelis and he just didn't deliver. It should have been clear the Tiger-Cats wanted to move on when they acquired Justin Medlock. Too many excuses from DeAngelis.

I think the problem with DeAngelis is more to do with his inflated head than his anything to do with his leg.

The first preseason game means squat, very few of the starters even get to play. The coaches really want to get a look at all their new/depth players. Really we won't get a more accurate indication of the team until their 3rd or 4th preseason game.

Anybody able to watch some more of this game? Shame it was on at the same time as Game 7.

um...each team only gets 2 preseason games in the CFL (I think its been this way for about a dozen years now, since they expanded from the 16 game Regular season schedule to 18. It used to be 4 preseason and 16 Regular season games.)

Wow, I had to double check that. For some reason I was convinced that they played more preseason games than that. Come to think of it, I seem to remember some players/coaches complaining last year that the preseason is too short. My bad...
