If you're looking to dump salary I don't think Chicago is the place. From what I've heard they're not much willing to increase it much above where it is now unless something spectacular fell onto their lap.

I think any Hawks fan would do that deal in a second but no Jersey fan would. Although we dont really have more room in the budget sadly.

I'm a Devils fan and I'll do it. Friesen is streaky, Kozlov is invisible, and Oliwa is useless. It's better than trading those guys for draft picks and prospects that might not materalize.

No thanks.

Every gm knows that if a team needs to dump a player their value drops faster than a russian.

So an actual deal would look like this.

Jeff Friesen ($2,280,000)
Victor Kozlov ($1,746,000)
Krzysztof Oliwa ($836,000) Total: $4,862,000

for a 3rd and a 5th.

That's the market.

We lost Thibault for a 4th. You won't get much for your guys.

Friesen = Daze
Kozlov is our new top six forward
Oliwa would be a huge fan favorite
I'd like to see this trade happen, but because we've spent about 4 million dollars of cap room on bonuses for a player management expects to play a whopping total of 10 games, we don't have the "budget".

You'd have to get rid of Lou Lamoriello and replace him with a muppet in order to make that deal work.

You'd make the deal ? Ok.

Just out of curiosity, would you take the same package for Mark Bell instead of Eric Daze ?

Yes I would take Mark Bell as well. Less money...very big and physical and will score. Realize that the assumption is the Devils will only get picks for any players they trade. I would personally push hard for Daze. But Bell is nice as well.

Bell and a 2nd Rounder
or Daze straight up.

You can afford an extra 2 mill on your payroll which is all yours would go up by picking up Kozlov, Friesen, Oliwa (essentially an entire line with quality players)

This is a win win trade.

Bell is already a better hockey player then Daze. I just realized, scary as it may be, Daze did at one time win an NHL All-Star Game MVP.

Actually it makes sense. it is the type of trade Lamoriello would make even though it takes 2 GM's to agree to a deal. It would shed the Deilvs cap by 2.5 mill while getting a player in return. You mean to tell me you would rather have Eric Daze who puts on a disappearing act at times and it injury prone for young speedy Friesen at the same price who NEVER gets hurt and can score 20-30 goals? Him and Kozlov propelled each others game in San Jose. Oliwa is an enforcer that would replace Daze's size.

It is a trade that makes sense in my opinion and one not rumored which is the type of deal which always happens from a Devils perspective.

When the devils make their salary dump trade they will get peanuts back.

No sence in dealin Daze when Friesen or Kozlov will go for a 3rd or 4th rounder.

Yes...

If the Devils dish off a player here and there they will get picks/low level prospects at best.

If they deal multiple quality players in a package to a team with cap room for someody of lesser value they could get a player in return.

That combined with Lou Lamoriello knowing the inticacies of the cap and sitting through all the meetings and establishment of the cap itself as well as people not realizing they are not in the cap trouble people think. They are over the cap. they look on paper to be 5 million over. But they are not. There is a difference between a players salary and its cap hit.

Not trying to troll, but I couldn't picture this happening. Daze isn't that good. Now it might be worth it if Chicago sent a 2nd or 1st rounder with Daze. But NJ couldn't afford it(skill wise) if they want to be a top contender losing 3 guys like that. Even with the savings, which UFA would NJ aquire?

The Devils win with roll players. And by the way. Elias, Gomez, Mogilny,Gionta, Parise,Langenbrunner,Madden,Brylin, and Rafalski to provide the offense. That is not that good? They also havethe top goalie in the game.

The Hawks are solid this season and might slip in. To have a line handed to them for only an increase of 2.5 mill towards the cap would for sure propel them as a lock for the post season.

The trade is win win any way I think about it.
