Yannick Weber, not Shea.

Good. I like Yannick Weber, I think he can turn into something special.

Well, this looks like the end for Wisniewski in Montreal.

Come on PG, get Markov signed!

Yup, I also think the Wiz is gone now.
Glad to have Weber, he's going to be a solid player; hopefully he breaks out this year.

With a bit a patience I could see him developing into a Rafalski type d-man, the tools and hockey sense is there as well as the mobility, plus he isn't soft so he can overcome being a bit on the small side.

I like Weber but he is nothing like Rafalski. Weber is an average skater with decent instincts and a very good shot. Rafalski was a great skater with superb instincts.

You guys make me laugh. You are the bonafide kings of logical deduction

You both do realize that Yannick Weber was going to get a contract no matter what, as he's as green as they come and is a RFA. Nothing changed with this signing, it's the same situation as yesterday, where Weber is an unproven player slated to be on the lineup. It is not a sign that Wiz won't be coming back (whether it happens or not). Weber getting a contract means nothing, he could still get traded at the draft, he could have a bad camp, he's only gonna be a sophomore.

If Wiz is gone, it's gonna be because the Habs want a bigger option for the 2nd pairing, because they do have the space to sign Wiz or someone else.

How reliable is that site? I can find no other source citing this.
Thanks.

I want us to keep signing playoff performers (guys who step up) and keep getting rid of anyone who typically doesn't. It doesn't have to be 100% stats but what I did see in Weber during the season and in his playoff stint. Not only did he improve rapidly throughout the season (first games in the NHL he looked very shaky) but he stepped up in the playoffs given his limited role.

You don't trade guys like that. This is why I want us to keep Cammy no matter what. The guy shows up when it counts. Can you imagine the Canucks had they signed Cammalleri? They'd be hoisting the cup right now imo.

He is a well above average skater.

I think the fact that we have Weber indirectly pushes Wisniewski out the door, as do Markov and Subban(assuming Markov is signed before July 1st). He won't be a great shutdown guy as he is average defensively and Subban and Markov are as skilled or more at puck moving and on the PP. The fcat that he would probably cost about 5 mil a year on a 4-5 year deal to re-sign right now is also a pretty big factor.

No **** bro. There's no news there.

The fact remains that Weber was going to get a contract no matter what, and THAT contract signing will not change anything to Wiz's situation. The contract signing itself, not the fact that we HAVE Weber. I'm all too aware of the redundancies in our D, I've been talking about that for weeks and people still believe we'll have a smallish and redundant D like that.

lol you could have asked me to elaborate instead of branding my thinking as illogical.

Technically it's not considered a credible source. I'll let this thread stay for now, hopefully a more credible source will report it.

There's no explanation. Weber signing a contract changes nothing as it was 99,999% garanteed he would get a contract. Habs ALWAYS sign their RFAs.

FYI, I didn't brand your thinking as illogical. I made a compliment, which in light of the tone, could be regarded as sarcastic. What you make of it is all yours.

How is a daily newspaper that cites Weber's agent himself not a reliable source?

You really expect Gauthier to get a bigger option?

Prospect like Weber take time, but he's got enormous upside. I'm very happy to see we're continuing to be patient with him. A two year contract at this point is exactly right. He's an asset we tend to undervalue (except for the inevitable trade proposals.)

My bad, I didn't see it on the list of credible Quebec newspapers at first.

I glanced to see Le Matin, and missed that it's listed under Le Matinternet.

Carry on.

Assuming Gorges and Markov re-sign....
Markov
Subban
Gorges
Gill
Spacek
Weber
Emelin
Diaz

PG has already stated that he believes that Emelin and Diaz are ready to play in the NHL. I think this signing makes Weber a very tradeable asset at the draft.

We have a logjam at D with too many of the same pieces and Weber is the logical choice to get back into the 2nd round or to move up in the 1st.

And FTR .......re-signing Wisniewski is a pipe dream

Bigger as in closer to Hamrlik in size.

I can count at least half a dozen very respected posters on this board who think the same thing. I'm not expecting anything, it's rather the logical step that needs to be taken. If you can't see that, you can facepalm all you want, I don't need your approval.

Maybe trade the massively overrated Lucic for Weber's rights...that would be a coup.
