Hartford needs veterans, and the Rangers need emergency callups.

Kolarik carries a small summer cap hit. The Rangers liked what Kolarik brought to the Whale. A little older than most of the players on that team. He played at Michigan with Carl Hagelin. Share the same agent. The Whale's PR guy Brian Ring wrote Kolarik would be re-signed and he was right.

That's fine. Good AHL player, not a liability in the NHL.

Nice. I like Kolarik, thought he played hard when he got a call up. He'll definitely do well in Connecticut and can prove to be a good call up if any injuries occur.

Curious to see what the contract is. I'm sure it's for around the min.

Also, can I just say that I hate the term extension? Extensions are technically illegal according to the CBA. What this is actually is a new contract that kicks in immediately upon the expiration of the old one. Just a pet peeve.

That must have been an unfriendly jolt to the system.

Anyway, I like Kolarik a lot. I'm happy about this. He's great for the AHL, and I think he works hard enough that he might be able to see a decent amount of games in the NHL this season. He's a grinder and definitely has a nose for the net.

Good, I'm happy about this. Pretty valuable guy at the AHL level, and was pretty surprising in his short stint in the big show.

Really? He's an AHL/depth guy, was great for the Pack last year, and he's not passive. Should we just load Hartford up with 20 Justin Soryal clones? The team already lead the league in PIM and fights.

always good to have in the A and is serviceable at NHL level if an emergency call up is needed.

to me he takes another contract away from something really useful.

We just seem to go after the same crap...

Ask Anisimov if he thought P.A. Parenteau was useless for his development.

It's always nice to have good players on the minor league team to help out our prospects. If everyone on the team was a young prospect, not much would get done for their development. Besides, what else are we going to do with that contract spot?

Something useful like...what? You have to field a competitive AHL club, and Kolarik helps you do that. What team has fifty contracts given only to "really useful" players? None at all. Hell, we won't even have 50 contracts this year. Signing Kolarik is in no way preventing us from adding anything useful. You're just complaining because he doesn't fit your ideal mold of a player.

You're right, this has spoiled our plans to net Alex Ovechkin. Fire Slats!

We have Wade Redden mentoring our kids...he makes enough money to mentor the entire team...we don't need anymore mentors...we need guys who can come up and produce if need be...this guy had one decent game and was garbage every other game.

We also have Newberry to lead our kids down there.

Shocking thats what you had to say about this signing.

He registered 21 goals and 20 assists. He gives us depth in the AHL. But I guess we should only retain big tough guys at all times, even when it is a move that concerns CT.

Kolarik will cost virtually nothing. He actually worked his butt off more than most of our call ups. The guy may not be an NHL All Star, but he's a good AHLer and a decent NHL injury call up.

And this signing hinders that how exactly?

Really? Last I checked, we still have plenty of contract spots available. And I don't know about you, but Kolarik didn't look out of place in his brief call-up, and he played very well for Hartford. Again, did it hurt Anisimov that he had a "useless" player in Parenteau to play with? Kolarik is fulfilling the same role.

You're just complaining for the sake of it.
