a) It's Eklund, so there's at least a 99% chance this is BS for hits

b) It's Eklund posting about the Leafs, so even more likely that it's BS

c) It doesn't even make sense anyways. As much as Markov is an incredible dman when healthy, he's 32 and has had awful injuries the last 2 years, so he's going to be a very risky signing. If you have a solid vet team, and are a top notch dman away from very serious cup contention, you're probably willing to take that risk (I'm talking about teams like the Sharks, Red Wings, etc.). But for a young, semi-rebuilding team like the Leafs, who won't be contending for cups even with a 100% healthy, pre-injury level Markov, I don't think it would be a smart move, because if he remains injury plagued (or simply cannot play at the same level anymore), then it's yet another bloated albatross contract on d to go along with Komisarek

I'd rather have Kaberle back than signing Markov.
I would sooner have Kaberle with the Leafs, too. Did you watch him after he joined Boston. He was BRUTAL. I hope the Habs keep Markov... there is no comparison between the two. Kaberle is worth about $2 million at his current level of play

These threads have more babies whining about Eklund than people talking about rumors.

As for the rumor, I doubt he would sign in Toronto. They're not going to be better than the habs within the near future, and I'm sure that PG would give him enough money to keep him happy.

Then again, Burke's the type of guy who would give Markov 8M just to steal him from Montreal and raise a big stink.

I think he'll be resigned by next week, RDS reported that his agent said that they should have some news early next week. JM said last week that is looking forward to to having Josh and Markov back next year...I think he'll get a 3 year deal for 6M per imo. Some people are going to say they rather resign Wiz for 5M per instead, but Wiz is just not comparably to the d-man Markov is, plus both have the same injury risk when you look at it, Wiz had 3 MCL/ACL injuries to the same knee just a few years ago. Anyhow if, and that's a big if, Markov isn't signed, I can think he goes to Det/NYR or Wash.

Not that I really want to see him come to the D, I think people are really discounting the Wings chances of signing Markov. Great team, in contention every year and EVERY Russian player wants to play with Datsyuk right now - best Russian in the league. Markov fits Detroits style of play - the only two things he has going against him is (1) injury problems and (2) he is a left-handed shot - Detroit doesn't need anymore left-handed D-Men to play the point on the powerplay.

I wouldn't mind Markov at all. I mean, it won't happen but It'd be kind of sweet if it did. (as long as he does not get injured)

I'd rather have Gardiner come in and get a shot; and have some great experience. We are nowhere close to the cup at the moment, and Markov isn't as influential as a Chara would be.

And what about the experience and leadership Markov could provide in the backend? Let's not forget the influence Kaberle had on Schenn.

In that case, Kaberle gets the nod. Markov has been injured for quite some time. Compared to him, Kaberle has been a Leaf for long long time, knows the dressing room, has a cup ring, and might take hometown discount.

But, TBH, it looks like Burke thinks its a step backward to sign a 30+ PMD at this point. If he is going to sign one anyways, he won't find one better and more willing than Kaberle.

A healthy Markov is much better than Kaberle.

Eklund is probably desperate for some hits.

I don't see Markov NOT re-signing with the Canadiens before July 1st, to a contract similar to the one that just expired. What with the Canadiens signing Emelin and all, I'm sure they'd love to have Markov take him under his wing and help him out.

Let's see...

Canadian Press news for free:

Quote:
This was announced Markov agent, Don Meehan QMI to the Agency on Wednesday.

"Nothing will be signed this week, he said. However, it remains possible that an agreement be signed before the draft. "
http://translate.google.com/translat...15-200914.html

Eklund rehash for a fee:

Quote:
on Markov...could he be joining Komisarek in Toronto? I have been hearing for some time now Markov was likely to stay in Montreal, but based on what I just heard I am not so sure

Pierre LeBrun report for free:

Quote:
Bieksa, who had a terrific postseason, should be the team's top priority. Most people assume if Bieksa is re-signed, Ehrhoff will hit the UFA market, although a source told us during the Cup finals that the Canucks believe they have a plan in place where they could bring back both players.
http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/i...-as-blackhawks

Eklund rehash for a fee:

Quote:
of the Two major UFA's dmen for the Canucks, my money would be on Kevin Bieksa staying and Christian Ehrhoff moving on...however there are many teams out there unsure about Ehrhoff and it is still possible he signs a short term lesser deal in Vancouver...
The proverbial hockey parrot is at it again.....

It's because Kaberle (and his father ) said that Kabs wouldn't resign in Toronto, so Burke wanted to at least get something for him. I could honestly see Kaberle go dirt cheap to Montreal. Like 2-3 years for 2.5 M. I don't know why, but I can see it..

I'd rather want Wisniewski than Markov if I were Burke.

It's obvious Burke initiated the parting of ways.

Wisniewski is more accessible than Markov though. He could be had for $4.7M per or so.

The best non goalie of one of the most popular teams to their rival and also one of, if not the most popular team.

He's looking for hits.
