Good job WTK. Have to say though, I can't imagine any scenario where Landeskog drops to #6. If the Sens get him...*shoots self*

Now if we knew for certain Landeskog would be available then a trade with NYI's could be a good thing.

Landeskog probably goes before Couturier, similar players but Landeskog's skating is better at this point plus he is more NHL-ready. He is probably the first to make the NHL or at least makes the biggest impact of those who will make the jump at the same time...this year's Skinner.

And what do we give in return they'd want proven assets if they trade that pick and not picks and prospects.

At least Gorges, Eller and our 1st and that's probably not even enough for them

That's what having Gauthier and staff are for finding the right players for the NYI's and being sure that the player they want is their's for the choosing.

I would be frieking happy if we got Scheifele at 17, or anyone would fall from the spots 10-15.

in my opinion it would be good at the right price of course but you definatly have to give something pretty good, and letS not forget that he is nhl ready this year got size, strength, will.... but any way i try to pull this trade i just have a really hard time finding something that could work.

RLR Top 10 defensemen, plus two sleepers:

http://content.usatoday.net/dist/cus...48515676.story

Quote:
1 Adam Larsson 6-2, 220 Right 11/12/1992 Skelleftea First
2 Dougie Hamilton 6-4, 193 Right 6/17/1993 Niagara First
3 Ryan Murphy 5-11, 176 Right 3/31/1993 Kitchener First
4 Oscar Klefbom 6-3, 196 Left 7/20/1993 Farjestad Jr. First
5 David Musil 6-3, 191 Left 4/9/1993 Vancouver First
6 Nathan Beaulieu 6-2, 184 Left 12/5/1992 Saint John First
7 Duncan Siemens 6-3, 196 Left 9/11/1993 Saskatoon First
8 Jonas Brodin 6-1, 170 Left 7/12/1993 Farjestad First
9 Jamie Oleksiak 6-7, 244 Left 12/21/1992 Northeastern First
10 Joe Morrow 6-0, 200 Left 12/9/1992 Portland First

There are a ton of good candidates for this category. By Red Line's definition, a sleeper is a guy who probably won't get selected that high, but has a chance to develop into one of the better players at his position in the draft. Using that as our criteria, we would select Mike McKee and Troy Vance as our real sleepers.

And people want us to get Grimaldi where we are more midget-sized. Gomez, Gio, Cammy, Gallagher.

Yeah, but our prospect group is big, too. The ones who aren't, like Dumont and Gallagher are feisty as hell.

agreed but still having 3 guy under 5"9 on your team (top 6 forward likely) is somewhat risky (Gerbe 5-5 ,Grimaldi 5-6 and Ennis 5-8)

Yeaa but when Grimaldi is a full time nhler in 3-4 year doubt Gionta/Cammaleri/Gomez are still around in mtl. In Buffalo case their all under 24

Gomez is more average sized than small, same for Plekanec. Our small palyers are DD, Gio and Cammy.

If Grimaldi is clearly better than the other options, you draft him and worry about adding more size via trades and later picks. If Grimaldi turns into a St.Louis or Fleury, then it's not hard to find players to play with him.

I have not seen him play so I can't say if he is worth passing on McNeill Klefblom Puempel Miller Scheifele Beaulieu or Armia to draft him.

The name out there that seems is going to be traded is Jeff Carter. Would you package the 17th pick plus other assets to get him?

They're trading Carter for cap relief, they're gonna want established prospects and high picks, we don't have neither the prospects or the high pick unless you wanna send Subban the other way, there's no way we can trade for him.

Based on what I've read, I'd be really happy if we picked up Scheifele

I'll throw my hat in with this comment, I don't pretend to know much about prospects but I think I'd be happy with anyone of Schiefele/Mcneill/Beaulieu/Rattie in that order.

Also, I really feel there has been an organizational shift in what we look for in players, specifically they look for winners and players with a history of leadership. I think after all of the issues with players over the last five years like Latendresse, Kostitsyn (s), and Lapierre. there really is a shift in what the organization looks for

What do you mean winners? PK didn't win anything before getting drafted, nor Carey. They shifted their choices to character guys because, you obviously need to be a special person to play here. You'll be the most talked subject throughout the whole year. Only at summer are you away from the cameras and microphones..

I just have the feeling in my stomach we're gonna go for the safe pick again. I am tired of picking guys who will be players. Not that much upside there. But they'll be Canadiens.

That type of philosophy doesn't win. It just keeps you afloat.
