Anaheim - Florida

Anaheim gets:
a 7th round pick in 2011

Florida gets:
Andy Sutton ($2,125 mil caphit, 2012 UFA)
a 7th round pick in 2012
a 7th round pick in 2013

The Ducks can't have a bottom pairing defenseman as expensive as Sutton is. He had a bad season, but could bounce back in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, Florida is way under the cap at $18 mil and gets a veteran for their young team.

I have this exact same trade in a prediction thread so I hope it comes true. I thought it made sense because Sutton is the type of player that could fetch a decent return at the deadline, which seems what Florida would look for.

Also, since we're already talking about the two teams what about:

To Florida: 1st, K.Palmieri, J.Blake
To Anaheim: Weiss

Not sure what the asking price is for Weiss but that's a 1st, great prospect, and a cap dump.

I don't think Florida would want that for Weiss. Have to think the main piece would be a young center who can at least step in and play for them. A prospect, 1st and Jason Blake won't do it.

I've always been a fan of Sutton's game, so I wouldnt mind it. But 7th rounders just seem so redundant. just make it a 5th and sutton for a 6th or 7th rounder and problem solved.

There is no way you get weiss in a trade where you dump the blake contract. sorry

We aren't going to get Weiss. he's Floridas #1 center I believe, and they'd expect a deal similar one for a #1 center, we'd have to overpay a fair bit.

Do they all have to be 7th rounders. Seems like a middle finger to Sutton doesn't it?

To be honest, I don't think Sutton's contract is that immovable just yet. His last decent performances are not so far removed that I could not see any GM taking a chance on him at his salary. If he was dealt (and I absolutely agree with you that he should be given the bold part), I could see it bringing back a 4th/5th rounder and not require assets to send him away.
